My daughter sees any attempt to restrain her as an infringement on her civil liberties. At 14 months, dressing her had better be quick or she will put in a call to the European parliament-Ok, maybe not but she will scream and kick until she can carry on with the important business of balancing precariously on tables, putting saucepans in the washing machine and trying her hardest to find non food items to eat.
Like most toddlers, she is an adventurer. Last year she could only lie there while I made sure she was well covered up or in the shade. This year, she wants to go out in the garden first thing in the morning and run around outside all day long. Trying to find shady play areas is nearly impossible, so she really needs sun protection.
I had tried her with regular sun creams but she would often hit my hand away, sending lumps of flying cream in any direction, or would turn her head just at the moment I was putting a blob on her nose and it would end up in her hair.
A friend recommended "Pampers Sunnies" and we haven't looked back since.
The product
We bought them from Boots, they cost £6 for 30 wipes and came with a handy plastic refillable case to put them in. It is slim and fits easily into a handbag. The refills are in a thin packet.
They are SPF factor 30, UVA and UVB protected (which is the anti ageing and anti burning) and are water resistant. The wipes also have vitamin E and provitamin B on them, to help keep the skin smooth. It smells nice, like a cross between a wet wipe and suncream (NB: I am not an expert but SPF 30 may not be high enough for some children, or in some holiday destinations, please do check if unsure)
Applying
This couldn't be easier, they are like wet wipes so unlike the sun cream bottle which she used to run away from (literally!) she is used to the sight of these and carries on with whatever she is doing (probably something she shouldn't be). They have the "right" amount of suncram on them already so you just wipe them over the face and body and then as with most suncreams, wait 20 minutes before being in direct sunlight for the best protection.
Although it is water resistant, it does need to be reapplied if baby is in the water for more than a few minutes (especially if you towel dry)
My opinion
They are a Godsend for any other little wrigglers! I think they are a really useful addition to babys daily routine in the summer, and it is significantly easier to apply than traditional creams.
The only downside is the cost, we have used a couple of packets this summer already, and are only halfway through August! However, she has to be protected, so I think it is worth it and would recommend it. Thanks, Nancy
