I'm so glad I found Panadol. I have suffered frequent headaches since I was a teenager, at one point I had a headache 6 -7 days of the week, and even went to get a CT scan at a hospital. Couldn't find what was wrong, headache just persisted!
Looking back, I think this was due to stress (exams). I have now learnt to manage my stress and control my workload, I get headaches far less often. Although when I have it it's pretty bad, it feels as though I am wearing a tight, heavy helmet that is slowly bolting on to my head! It affects my concentration, work, and social life.
One day when I was in a town shopping, my period started and my belly started to ache violently. I couldn't carry on with my fun day out shopping with the severe pain, and I popped in at a Wilkinson's store and got a bottle of water and a box of Panadol Actifast.
I normally take plain and simple paracetamol/ ibuprofen/ aspirin which are the cheapest around, however, on this occasion, the pain was so bad I wanted something that said Fast acting, so I grabbed the Panadol Actifast.
FACTS - Panadol Actifast by GlaxoSmithKline:
1. The packet contains 16 tablets and Wilkinson's does it for 1.79 (happens to be the cheapest around. the next best price is to be had from Superdrug, about 2.20 a packet.) It also comes in packets of 8 or 24. They have also started making a handy travel packet too.
2. Active ingredients - paracetamol 500mg per tablet. (plus sodium 173mg, and potassium sorbate E202). Take 2 tablets, maximum 8 tablets per 24 hour. Not for children under 12 years of age.
3. I didn't get any side effects. It says ask GP if you suffer from kidney/liver/metoclopramide or domperidone problems, pregnant/breast feeding, all the usual.
I gobbled two tablets down and just rested on a bench for a little while. Just a few minutes later, to my joy and surprise, almost all the pain had disappeared..! (Is this actually happening????) I could feel the pain disappearing, as if a tide was drawing away from the coast!
The effect lasted for about 4 hours, then I took another dose and it worked magic again. Seriously, what's Panadol so different from other headache pills to work so well??
Since then I've been hooked (not literally, but when I really need it!) to Panadol Actifast, for normal headache it works just as well as it works for period pain. For my violent stress headache, I would say it reduces the pain by 70% - which, for me, is quite an achievement.
Evey month when I get a period pain on the 1st day of my period I have to take Panadol - the best record so far, for the tablets to work, is 7 minutes! No other tablets have done this - or the disappearance of pain is so gradual and it takes time there's no way I could 'time' it. With Panadol I just know exactly when the pain dissipates - it really is magic!!
When a friend of mine was recently visiting me from France, she sufferred a bad head ache. She tried Panadol Actifast and she bought 5 boxes to take home to France. Need I say more?
Cons...
The size of the tablets - I can normally take aspirins etc without any water but Panadol Actifast is quite large, you definitely need water to swallow.
The price - it's more expensive than conventional tablets. But as it works 10 times better I think it's worth the money. I keep Actifast for my severe pains and use the rest when the pain is not so bad.

Handy to know something works so well, I don't tolerate Paracetamol very well. Worth noting that this drug can do serious damage if even a small overdose is taken, and users must be careful to ensure they don't take anything else containing paracetamol.
