Introduction
Having bought a nice new television (Recently reviewed) I was looking for a new DVD player to go with it and knowing a bit about Hifi and Home Cinema I opted for a player from the same brand Panasonic. I have always been very impressed with any Panasonic product I have owned or seen in a home. After a little look around I opted to buy this player as I had heard great things about it and some of the other products in the DIGA Range so I choose the Panasonic DIGA DMR-EX79 and here is my review.
The Look
When Choosing a new DVD Player I wanted to get one that was as smart looking as the new television I had just bought. One thing about Panasonic products I like so much is that they have a great look and this player is no different, It looks very smart in it's Piano black casing and as usual the remote is very concise and detailed. Everything about the look of this DVD Recorder says Panasonic. It looks much more expensive than other players around the same money which is another thing that sets it apart.
DIGA DMR-EX79
As I like to record a lot of programs on my Hard Disk Freeview recorder I wanted to get something that would record certain programs onto DVD when the hard disk was getting full of I wanted a hard copy. This is a fantastic combination of DVD Player and recorder which has great performance in both options. Since DVD recorders were introduced Panasonic have been at the top of the game at every price point so it's not so surprising that this has such a great reputation.
Recording
This has a massive 250GB Hard Drive and features a Freeview tuner for easy recording onto either the hard drive or onto the DVD. Recording is simple, you can either set it up to record something on a timer or if you find something you like you can just press the record button and it will start to record. When you record something on this you will get as near as possible to the performance of the original broadcast. Not many can say that they do that as well as the recording process being so easy.
Freeview
The freeview tuner on this reproduces broadcasts brilliantly with great picture and sound detail. The only drawback about the freeview tuner is that you can't watch one program and record the other but this is easily got round as you will probably have another freeview tuner maybe with the television or another box if you have a full setup. The link between the freeview tuner and the recording system is brilliant and you can record series at the click of a button.
DVD Playback
If you are going to record DVD's then the chances are you will want to watch them. This is another great thing about this Panasonic. You can watch DVD's and it will upscale to HD if you have a HD TV. This means that it will improve the picture of the DVD compared to a standard version. The DVD playback is very detailed and the sound is another great feature of the performance of this player. It has all the necessary connections for use as your main player in a Home Cinema setup.
Other features
If that wasn't enough for you, This also gives you the ability to view and listen to things on your SD Card or there is a USB connection to connect your mp3 player to the player. These are two great additions to make this Panasonic really complete. A fantastic product.
Overall
This is a truly remarkable product from Panasonic. Not only is the performance brilliant but you can find this available for around £250 which is a bargain as the performance would seriously hint at more like £400+. This is a perfect partner for my Panasonic HD TV and it will work brilliantly with a load of other top Plasma or LCD TV's as well. A brilliant product that has so much going for it.
