I waited for ages for the right DVD recorder to come along, and this is basically it! It still isn't perfect but DVD recording technology is is still developing and it does everything I need it to do.
Panasonic have finally made a multi-format recorder (I needed +R and RAM capability) plus a hard drive giving up to 160hours of recording (although I stick to 40 hour mode for better quality recordings). Once you get it set up and get used to some of its quirky ways it is very easy to use, however this did take a while.
I have my recorder set up with my sky box, it has a fantastic funstion called ext link which means if you set your sky box to autoview programmes the recorder will tape them - I can set entire series to record and it will. I can then edit out commercials etc and burn to a DVD - fantastic. Setting all this up however took time - and for some reason it defaults to the high speed dubbing setting being switched off (why would anyone want it switched off??) This is really irritating when your realise you'll have to dub the whole of Bleak House in real time......
Recording quality in SP mode is stunning, I wouldn't go below this mode though. Overall it does what it says on th tin, albeit in a slightly quirky way. I wouldn't be without it (can't imagine how I ever was - as it has changed the way I watch television) and would buy another one tomorrow without hesitation.
