As far as this piece of equipment goes, it's as good as most of the similar machines on the market...if a bit expensive. When I first got it I didn't realise just how much better it is to have a dvd recorder than a video recorder but then this machine (and probably other similar and cheaper devices) changed my life. The ability to record straight onto the hard drive is great and editting out the adverts before burning to dvd is excellent. Really makes the most out of blank dvds and stands to save one some money in the future.
Anyways, the DMR-EH. The first thing you notice is how cool it looks with its half balck and half white design. However, as you lift it to plug it in, you realise that it actually quite light. Possibly evidence of how even though it is big, seems a little limited in performance.
Installation is incredibly easy, just scart socket here, aerial there, etc. However, it's when you turn it on and try to set it up using the remote that the problems begin. First of all the remote is not tuned to the remote code of the DMR-EH, so it has to be set up which confused me a lot...
The interface is fairly simple and basic performances such as recording tv and burning programs to dvd can be done with just a few button presses. However, more complex actions like editting out adverts is a lot harder and several mistakes were made when I was trying this out....mistakes that lead to segments of film going *missing*.
When I first got the DMR-EH, all the dvds I burned (or is it burnt?) didn't seem to work in anything but the player, but then I realised that you had to finalise the discs through a separate menu and then they worked fine so should you buy the DMR-EH, don't forget to finalise!!!
Overall, I'd say the DMR-EH is very capable at what you'd want to do, but is a little overpriced considering. Several of the cheaper systems made by panasonic should work just as well.
