...mainly wanted this machine mainly because i watch alot of sky digital channels and whats the point of recording them on VHS when you can get brilliant quality on DVD? THIS IS VERY EASY TO USE SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF THIS SETTING THINGS UP LIKE THIS OR USING THEM THEN THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU. Quick look at the features: DVD-R DVD-RAM Timeslip DV in RGB in & out 1 hour on 4.7GB at XP 2 hrs at SP 4 hrs at LP 6 hrs at EP Up to 52 hours on the HDD FR mode When using this there are menus to use very simple also it displays how much space is left at the current recording quality which i think is VERY helpful! ...-What is it? It's a DVD player with digital sound etc. It is a DVD recorder (to DVD-RAM and DVD-R) and it has a 40 GB hard disk to record to as well. -Why is it so cool? Chiefly, you can record TV programmes using Videoplus, then edit out the ads and save films etc to DVDs that can be played in a normal DVD machine. -Progamme times aren't convenient? With the Panasonic DMR-HS2, you can get it to record a programme while you are still having supper, and then start watching when you have finished eating, even through the programme is still being recorded. Then you can fast forward through the ads as well. -Other ways you can use it You can copy from a DV camera straight to DVD, or edit on the HD before copying to DVD. Advantages: Ease of use, Picture quality, flexibility.
Disadvantages: Instruction manual could be clearer but you get to know in the end.

...and I could see no difference what so ever in picture quality, the Panasonic DMR-EX85 really is that GOOD ! The Panasonic DMR-EX85 also has a built in DVB digital tv tuner which allows you to record freeview channels, be aware though that the Panasonic DMR-EX85 does not allow you to record pay for tv or encrypted channels, if you want to do this you would have to buy a DVB digital tv set top box and connect it to the Panasonic DMR-EX85. I have connected to my Panasonic DMR-EX85, a Sky tv digibox, which connects to the Panasonic DMR-EX85 AV2 scart socket. If you are going to connect things i.e Sky digi box etc to the Panasonic DMR-EX85 and then to a tv by a scart socket, then please do not use cheap scart leads, most people think that a scart lead is a scart lead, but I have found this to be untrue, cheap ones DO NOT give as sharp a picture...
