Full review
If money is no object and you are looking for an excellent portable DVD-Video CD player, I suggest you check out Panasonic’s DVD-LV70. After my brother purchased this machine, I had the pleasure of borrowing it for a few weeks while he was out of town. While I would never spend this kind of money for such a device, it is definitely on the cutting edge of technology. First of all, you may be wondering what the exact purpose of this device is. Is it a DVD player or a CD player or both? The answer is all of the above and more.

I popped in a few DVD movies like “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Star Wars” to test out the overall quality of the movies on this portable DVD player. Images were crisp and vibrant on the 7-inch Diagonal Widescreen LCD. I actually felt like I was sitting at home watching a movie on my digital television. You can even switch between a normal and wide screen for added enjoyment. This really comes in handy for viewing cinematic films.

I was also blown away by the quality of the built in stereo speakers. All sounds and speech were perfectly modulated with no audible distortion. I was not surprised to discover that this DVD player is equipped with a Digital Surround Sound System. If you have trouble listening to the dialogue, just use the Dialogue Enhancer to make the dialogue louder and clearer. This feature works well if you are in a crowded area with lots of noise.

I also tried out a few music CD’s to see if the sound was any good on the Panasonic DVD-LV70. Once again I was surprised by the quality of the bass and treble that the machine had. Considering that the Panasonic DVD player is less than one inch thick, I was impressed with the sound quality of my CD’s.

Although the main purpose of this portable player is for viewing movies while on the go, it is also usable as a fully-featured home DVD player. Just plug it into your television and your ready to go. It sports most of the features you’d expect in a home DVD player too! It makes you wonder whether or not it makes sense to own two separate DVD devices when this DVD player does both so well.

Another thing that also impressed me was the long 5-hour battery life of the DVD player. I sat through a long 4 hour flight and was able to watch two full movies without requiring me to recharge the battery. Speaking of recharging, this portable DVD player is also equipped with a built-in recharger that make this device even more convenient. I always hated carrying around those re-charging devices. I’m surprised no one thought of this years ago.

Impressive Features You May Never Use
Some other impressive features of the Panasonic DVD-LV70 include still picture display, headphone V.S.S (excellent sound quality), 35-Key slim remote, digital audio outputs, frame advance (forward and reverse), high speed smooth motion scan, on screen menu items, and chapter preview. I rarely use such features, but I do enjoy having them available at the flick of a button.

Is It Worth The Price?
If you’re like me, the idea of actually buying such an expensive device is slim at best considering the high price. My brother paid a whopping $1,000 for this portable DVD player. Techies that have to have the best technology now should not miss out on the chance to own this excellent portable DVD player. For the rest of us, wait a year or two and the prices should drop dramatically.
