As it was recently my brothers birthday my parents bought him this nice piece of equipment. My parents and I live in Dubai so we bought the product for a considerably cheaper price than you are able to find in the UK. We paid about 550 pounds or around there and I think it is around 600-700 in the UK. So as you can tell it is one of the more pricey ones.

The Panasonic DVD-LX9EBS is quite a good size although I believe some of it's competitors have brought out smaller ones than this. The DVD player in itself does look the part and unlike others, for external use you have the built in stereo speakers (as per usual) but also the high quality external speakers. These improve sound quality by far. My friend has had a Sony one for a while now and the sound is often not clear and most certainly not loud. If you wish to keep it low you can still just plug your headphones into the side it and listen through there with still very high quality. This is also improved by the 'cinema mode' to make it feel like your actually there (enhanced by the surround sound given by the external speakers).

However, if your thinking about just drifting away for a while into your movies/music etc then you have to be near a socket as the DVD player only has a playback of 2.5 hours on the battery.

Another beneficial characterisitc of the Panasonic DVD-LX9EBS is the fact that you can put almost any CD and watch or listen to it. These include DVD-Audio, DVD-Video, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, Video CD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, WMA, MP3, JPEG. So whether your watching a film, listening to the soundtrack or just looking at pictures from a CD - it's compatible which makes it very useful. I especially liked using it on flights as I can watch a movie then switch over and drift off to a bit of music (again, sound quality great with this). The features are, I think, very good. I mainly use the DVD player only but my dad likes to fiddle around with the options and apparently it does actually have a wide range of features and options which have not yet been discovered by myself!!! I suppose you have to be into that sort of stuff!

The product has all the basic necessities on the player itself (such as skip scenes) and also on the slim type remote control. The DVD player has a joystick for ease of navigation also. The battery and recharger and AC adaptor are all supplied complimentary on purchase (a steal for 700 pound!?!?!).

I am not sure about how durable the good is as I am not willing to check (someone try and let me know!!). The product weighs in at between 1-2kgs - so obviously not in the heavyweight division with some of the others in the market which I have seen! The DVD-LX9EBS is also relatively quick to setup which is good for the impatient! The initial setting up of the player (installation) is very easy - even I could figure it out!! If you experience problems the instruction manual is relatively easy to follow so you should not have a problem. There is not an extreme amount of technical jargon concealed in the manual and that what is is simple to understand.

I think it could be improved by Panasonic bringing oout different colours to the machine as it currently only comes in silver. They could also possibly consider lowering the price a little bit as I'm not sure it will sell that well as there is much cheaper to be found.

Anyway, I would certainly suggest that if you are considering an investment in a portable DVD player then (if you can afford) go for this one. It provides hours of fun and also for the technically advanced - something to play about with. So far it has been extremely reliable with not one fault (touch wood!!).
