Advantages: No software or drivers required, built in mouse, hotkeys, excellent value for money! Disadvantages: None
I bought the Shuttle PN31 InfraredRemote for my Dell Dimension 8400 PC running Microsoft XP Home Edition two months ago and love it!!
The remote requires no driver CD or software - simply plug the black infrared receiver into a USB port and your PC recognises it straight away as a "human interface device", just as it does a mouse or keyboard. It has a built in mouse which is really easy to use. There are a number of "hot keys" - these are shortcut buttons which allow you to open windows media player, your web browser, start menu, email, favorites, my computer, it even allows you to turn off your computer at the press of a button!!!!
It works really well with media player - even if media player is running in the background or minimised, the volume can be adjusted at the touch of a button.
I have a Freecom Freeview USB TV ...
Advantages: saves time, ideal for turning your computer into a TV Disadvantages: makes you lazy
turn the computer off in Windows so do not expect it to be able toto turn the computer back on as it doesnt work like that I am afraid.

Who's the ML-L3 Nikon remote for?
The ML-L3 Nikon remotecontrol is very easy to use and is ideal for any level of photographer.
Made by Nikon, it works with the Nikon D50, D70 and D70s digital SLR cameras (and some websites say it works on the Nikon F65, Coolpix 8400 and Coolpix 8800, too). Each of these cameras has an in-built receiver for the remotecontrol so no other equipment is needed. I've been using mine with a Nikon D50 and it works a treat.
How much does it cost?
I chose to buy from Amazon where it was £11.99.
Vital statistics:
Designed with a lightweight black plastic casing, the remote measures: 2.4 x 1.1 x 0.25 inches (6 x 2.7 x 0.5cm). It arrives in a small box with no instructions so I was glad I kept my camera manual.
