Got a new phone, got a new phone, I got a new phone!!
And its' not that bad at all.
Due to a recent mishap to my current mobile (which involved me getting the adaptor/charger stuck and snapping off the pin - don't ask!), I decided that it was time to invest in a new phone, as you do.
After much pondering, perusing and playing, I eventually decided upon the Panasonic GD35, given the fact that I had a limited budget as I was not expecting my current Trium phone to die such an early death. So I ordered my phone from a catalogue (easy payment terms you see) and eagerly awaited my new purchase.
So now it is here, and it really is quite a good little phone. The first thing that is readily noticed is its size and weight. It is very light indeed, and size wise very compact, but not too tiny in the form of the Nokia 8210. Shape is comfortable and pleasant to hold, and its fits snugly into a pocket without being too bulky. So far so good.
After registering the phone, it was then time to have a little play around to see what it could do. As I am an avid WAP user, I decided to try out the internet access first. All I can is this - Trium, take a leaf out of the Panasonic handbook! The WAP browser/access is very very quick, not like the Trium range of WAP phones. It must be on a different network I hear you all cry. Wrong. I am still on BT Cellnet, and the WAP access is still via the Genie browser. It's just a lot quicker. The E-mail facility is also vastly improved, with more text per screen available than "other" WAP phones that I won't mention. There is also a bookmark option to save you hunting down your favourite sites when you next log on. Impressed, I am already.
Being well pleased with my first impressions, it was time to see what weird and wonderful features my new phone could provide. Apart from the usual features, SMS, Voicemail, Call info, etc, the phone also includes and adjustable greeting that you can type in to welcome you when you turn on the phone itself. There is an animation option which is shown on the main screen logo and when you send SMS. Nice touch. The SMS option includes predictive typing and a preset message option to save you typing in things like "call me", "happy birthday", "going to be late" etc. There is also an alarm clock function, calculator, and 1 game (Connect 4) to play. Other added bonuses are the vibrating alert option, and the phone book which holds up to 100 phone names at a time.
The overall "feel" of the phone is good. There are 20 different ring tones to choose from which are not bad at all. However sorry guys but no option to create/download your own, and no facility for graphics either. The sound quality is a little too quiet for my liking also, although it is clear there is no facility to increase speech volume (one up to the Trium in that category. The use of each menu though is very straight forward, and within a few minutes I was able to navigate around with relative ease before plowing through the handbook. Instructions included are concise and to the point, but this is the par for the course for any Bt Cellnet phone. Also included is a Freeserve internet disc, handy if you wish to log on to the Genie website and change your preferences for SMS alerts sent to your mobile from a PC. The biggest bonus for me however was the fact that my existing SIM card was an exact fit for my new phone, meaning no worries about having to change my number. Excellent!
All in all this is not a bad phone at all. I appreciate there are bigger and better ones currently available (I will get that Motorola Wings V50 one day!!!), but overall this is a great little phone in its own right, which should appeal to most. Cost was £89.99 (remember though this was via a catalogue so will definitely be cheaper at other retail outlets). WAP users should check this out, as worth a look in my book.
Advantages: Does everything it's supposed to, like phone poeple. Disadvantages: I probably paid an extra 20 quid for it having WAP, but it was still the cheapest phone in the shop I suppose!
Apparently this phone has something called WAP which is really cool and new and exciting and we can't live without it. I must have pressed the wrong button becasue all I got was something akin to text messaging, which was a bit pants, to be honest. WAP is marketed as the easy way to keep in touch/ access the internest and information whilst on the move. But if you're that desperate to use the internet that you have to use a pretend version of it ... ...your 'puter 24/7. Okay, I'm sure WAP has it's advantages and can be handy. But do we really need it, or is it-whisper it gently now-just another cunning advertising ploy to get us all to buy another phone, as compose your own ringtones and download your own icons obviously weren't successful enough. I don't deny that one day I might use it, but I have always been happy with phoning and texting people with my phone, and surfing the 'net with my computer. ...

Advantages: attractive, easy to use, fairly cheap Disadvantages: ight weight (you forget that you have it with you)
I've bought the WAP phone so that I can keep up to date with e-mail as well as texting people. The phone is light weight and attractive to look at. You can personalise all the settings, from greetins messages, ring tones (I've gone for the Grange Hill theme)to the animation. The best thing about this phone is how easy it is to use. I managed to operate it without having to look at the instruction book. If you have a slight fear of mobile phones then ...
