...here is it – the Panasonic GD55 – the smallest phone in the world!!
Measuring 77mm x 43mm x 17mm it really is rinkydinky, weighing in at a ‘massive’ 65g you would be forgiven for thinking it will be too hard to use.
However, if you hold it up against one of the newer Nokia or Samsung phones you will see that the keypad is the same size as a normal phone. The screen display is a little shorter but does appear to be a ... ...left.
The Panasonic GD55 does all the usual things a phone can do, normal calling, text messages – using T9 predictive texts, which can be a little odd to get used to at first.
It comes in 3 colours – silver, red and pink, mine is silver, I don’t believe you can purchase different coloured fascias for it but I may be wrong. It has a funky blue screen which I think goes really nicely with the silver one.

My phone is on Pay as you Talk by Vodafone, it is the only option and network I have seen it on so far, although a man on eBay is offering to ‘unlock’ the phone (meaning you can use it with any Sim card at all) for around a fiver….I know all the best people! I am just getting used to PAYT and it seems OK as I don’t use my phone all that much. What I have done is used one of my pre-set numbers as a ‘get your balance’ call so I never have to remember the number to dial to see how much credit I have left.

Available at Argos at £129.00 or Vodafone stores at the same cost – or if you can get their web site to work it is £109.99 on there – good luck (you’ll need it!)
20 wallpapers – I currently have the 2 paw prints on mine, but there is a choice of footballers, boats, fish, teddies, a dolphin, a young lady with flowing locks, a dragon…. and many more
* 250 names can be stored in the phone book – Like I know that many people?!?!?* Hands free kit – not needed as it is built into phone – works quite well too – if a little quiet for hearing in heavy traffic
* Choice of ringtones, text tones and vibration alert built into phone
* 4-chord polyphonic ringtones – not as good as my Samsung one but quite melodic
* Caller ID Graphics – so if it’s ‘im indoors’ it can come up with a little heart – ahh bless, not worked out how to use it yet though – doh!
* Text message templates – i.e. texts already written for you to use, like I love you, sorry, Happy Birthday, I will be late – very odd indeed, as if I knew anyone had got a preset I love you in their phone and used it whilst not being bothered to type it in themselves I would not be happy!!! Very weird indeed!! But I guess it shows how society is today with not a minute to spare – blimey I am going all philosophical
* Battery seems to last forever between charges! It tells me on the web site it has 230 hours standby time and 8 hours talk time - which is a major plus point
So why do I like my phone so much?
It’s small, so it can easily fit in a tiny handbag, although I feel I may loose it in my large work handbag! It comes with a neck cord, but I have shortened this to a wrist cord, as I am unlikely to walk around with a phone around my neck to be honest!
I think the phone will appeal to young trendy sorts (not me at all – on either count!), it is very gimmicky and being billed as the smallest phone in the world. When you get your phone out people do stop and stare!
My only gripe at the moment, is that it is so new they don’t appear to have made an ‘in car’ charger for it as yet! So only mains charging is allowed, and as I am now out of the house until Friday night that’s not so good!
Advantages: small and compact in sylish silver Disadvantages: easy to lose only available on vodafone
The panasonic GD55 phone is very small and so is easy to lose but it is very stylish and quite easy to use. i particularly like the menu format although some things are hard to find e.g the ringtones. my favourite part of the phone is the small shape and the neck strap provided with it. i found it difficult to type with the small keypad and i feel a colour screen would make the phone more stylish like the newest panasonic phone.
there is a wide ... ...various screensavers. the feature that most annoyed me about the phone is the fact that it is impossible to download any kind of screensaver or up to date ringtones as they are not compatible.
this phone should be available on all networks as then you have a choice of tariffs rather than just vodafone as i find their tttariffs quite expensive compared to others e.g o2. the phone has one built in game and there are no others to download. the game ...

Advantages: Tiny! One of the cheapest tri-band phones Disadvantages: Small key pad, has crashed on me twice
As the title suggests, I was attracted to this phone first and foremost because of the size. I'd had my loyal "brick" phone for the best part of four years, and although my previous phone had given me good service, quite frankly I was fed up with carting a large and heavy phone around.
The GD55 is max 65g, and (h x w x d)77 x 43 x 17mm. I can slip in in my pocket or hang it around my neck on the cord and hardly be aware of it. I originally intended ... ...but I wanted a basic functional phone. However, the shop assistant changed my mind and I am glad!
The GD55, as far as I am aware is the cheapest tri-band phone (can use in more countries than dual-band, including the United States). Not only that, but Vodafone shops seem unaware of this. On buying my phone and then failing to see it advertised as tri-band, I went into a few shops and asked, being told it was not. Research on the internet and in ...

Advantages: Small, sleek, stylish Disadvantages: Small, can get lost easily
...this time and its the Panasonic GD55 on Vodafone Pay at you Go.
Retails in the shops (Phones 4U) for around £80.00 but can vary on different net works.
Overall phone is very stylish. Comes in a choice of silver, pink and red. You may find that you can only purchase the silver one here and you can't change the covers.
Doesn't have a built in antenna so small stubby antenna on the back, but still looks good.
Small, thin and lightweight -- it weighs ... ...an accessory or slip it into a pocket. The large LCD screen shows up to four lines of text, so even long messages are easy to read. The logical layout of the keys makes for easy, intuitive operation. You can send text messages to other EMS-compatible mobile phones, and even attach images or sound using EMS: Enhanced Messaging Services.
The GD55 comes with a variety of built-in ring tones, and you can create your own ring tones with a rich, 4-tone ...

Advantages: Lightweight, Small, Compact, Disadvantages: Mono screen, Lack of RIngtones, VERY small keypad,
I have had my Panasonic GD55 for some 12 months now, but after the inital novelty factor of the phone, I found that I had to get a replacement phone and use my GD55 as an emergency phone rather than a primary phone. as it was driving me mad. It has a menu system on it a bit like a maze ! once you go into one menu you find yourself into another and another, at times it can be frustrating. Another downfall for the GD55 is the incredible small keypad, ... ...have to be extremely accurate in pressing the correct keys otherwise you end up pressing all the wrong ones !! From a technical point of view its quite a "loaded" phone and has all the usual bits , such as internet, clock, calender, phonebook, messaging, game, even world time zones !,etc. etc. the sheer size of the phone sold it for me as I was sick and tired of carrying a bulky heavy mobile phone about with me. It is extremely light and compact and ...

i'm a bit of a mobile phone buff, i've been known to change my mobile every 6 months to ensure i get the best of my current 'feature of the year' or what have you. so i think i have some merit in giving this opion, and hope its of use to you.
i previously had a panasonicgd87 - my first camera phone. i bought that one based on the verdict that it had the best camera/screen combo at the time (see my review on this site). the problem was, that panasonic just didn't have user friendly software. it was impossible to easily manage your phonebook, and it was a real pain texting - you'd end up having to delete an entire word because the t9 didn't work well.
so i decided to change, and change i did - to using a brand new siemens s55. i've had this for a good 5 months now (new change impending ;-) and this review is based on that 5 month ...
