Advantages: Good price, great range of features, looks cool Disadvantages: Can't dim the backlit numberpad; the "one touch" dialling isn't.

They have a couple of really useful features in addition to the usual ones: call restrict and night mode are two that many people might find useful.
Call restrict allows you to bar up to six dialling codes so if you have any teenagers in the house prone to dialling premium rate numbers when your back is turned you can now have the last laugh. If you want to call one you can put in a pin number to free up the dialling code, ... more

The phone charges in about 5 hours from first use and feels and looks like a mobile in your hand. The buttons are generously sized and they are backlit so fumbling for the phone in the dark is also not a problem. The screen is quite clear too, at 1.5inches.

Call restrict allows you to bar up to six dialling codes so if you have any teenagers in the house prone to dialling premium rate numbers when your back is turned you can now have the last laugh. If you want to call one you can put in a pin number to free up the dialling code, then put it back on again. Nifty.
Night mode allows you to block all incoming calls between times you preset. You modify this to allow only numbers which ring for a long time to get through (say after ringing for 60 seconds it will get through) or set a group of close family only to get through.
The phone has a built in answerphone and people can leave long messages without getting cut off. The maximum message length you can leave apparently is 40 minutes, but mercifully no one has tested that on my phone!
It comes with a speaker phone facility and a headset jack too so you can plug in a headset if you want to use them in an office environment. The internal phone book can store 200 names and numbers.
It has a very useful export feature which lets you send your programmed-in numbers to other handsets so you don't haveto programme each phone individually if you buy a pile of them.
The talk clarity is great and it is comfortable to hold. The reception is good - mine works from the base station in the garden and the garage.
One slight irritation is that the lovely bright display doesn't seem to have a low setting. Apart from the waste of electricity, this means the phone is not ideal for a bedroom. The other slight irritation is that you have to press two buttons to use the "one touch dialing facility" which is a bit daft.
But all in all this is a great product, at a competitive price, which I'd buy all over again if I were choosing new house phones. It's cool and useful with the features you need and some extras too
...into the home, and the Panasonic KXTG-8220 is an example of a device that's bridging this gap. One could say we're rather moving backwards by 'advancing' in the wrong order, but that's an opinion I leave for you to decide upon.
The 8220 is similar in specification to the 820X models of Panasonic's KXTG series, with the addition of an answering machine which can be controlled from the base station. I bought mine for £51 from Tesco, although this ... ...level, high class phone from Panasonic that will suit either the home or office. A range of innovative and useful features, both functional and esthetic make this a good investment from a productivity point of view. I have some concerns with some of the design factors, particularly the weak base holder and the over-sized keys, but no doubt some folks would not find this too much of a deal.
Personally, this phone is more than I need, and the keypad ...

up with the useless BT phones for many years I had a wish list of features that I wanted in the new phones. I also refused to have another BT model. After much searching I decided upon the PanasonicKX-TG8220. It had everything I wanted and more to boot, the only downside was the price. We bought the 3 handset pack for £109.99 from Argos.
Model Names
Here is a brief explanation of the Panasonic model naming system. The KX-TG8220E refers to the model that consists of the answer phone base unit and one handset. I bought the KX-TG8223EW, the 3 meaning it comes with 3 handsets and the W at the end meaning the colour of the model is white. The model is also available in black and these model numbers will have a B at the end instead of the W. A twin pack will be 8222 and a quad pack will be 8224. They are all the same model but ...
