I upgraded to this model from a 2-handset BT model, as the battery life had deteriorated badly. I wasn’t interested in this model to start with as I didn’t ‘need’ 3 handsets – but then decided ‘the more the merrier’, and now have a handset in the bedroom. This is where the illuminated screen is useful – if someone calls, or you need to make a call in the middle of the night. A light on the top of the handset lights up when it is charging - handy to find in the dark. Another useful feature is the ‘hands free’ option – talk while you’re cooking! The handsets also support caller display.
You can transfer calls between handsets, and make free internal intercom calls. Both handsets have a large alpha-numeric phone directory with good functions like save last number direct to phone book, and copy names and numbers from one handset to the other. The menu is easy to use and I don’t always need the Operating Instructions book to work out how to use it!!
The answering machine has a memory capacity of about 20 minutes (a maximum of 64 messages!!) and has a flashing light to indicate when you have messages – far preferable to the annoying BEEP on my last system, which continued until you listened to the message!! You can record your own answer message or use the pre-recorded one. The only negative points are that the ring tones are a bit basic, and, although you can adjust the volume on the handsets, you cannot on the base station – so don’t have that one in the bedroom!!
Advantages: very stable on its charger Disadvantages: will not work if there is a power failure (unlike conventional corded phones)
I wanted to by this model because of the favorable reviews I had read.
I went to the local Comet shop where the only had the KXTG7124 model (with 4 handset: more than I needed) or else the newer KX-TG223ES with 3 handsets.
I could not quite identify any significant technical difference between the newer 7223 and the older 7123, but I immediately noticed that the newer7223 has extremely poor stability: a minimal shake would knock the handset off ... ...older KX-TG7123 could be shaken vigorously without falling off. I went back home an order the older but more stable 7123 from an online retailer, where it is still available. Having used this phone for just a few days, I can say so far there are many PROs and 1 CON.
PROs: works well, I like being able to enter phone numbers on one handset and being able to copy/transfer the whole phonebook to the other handsets.
CONs: none of the phones would work ...
