Panasonic KXTG7212ET Twin Home Phone.......
We haven't really had much luck so far with buying and using home phones so we were very dubious about buying the same brand that we had had in the past (BT) and switched to buying a phone from the Panasonic brand. This was a very wise decision and as we have had these phones now for a good year or so I can now give a good opinion on how they work and run.
...the cheap price of these Panasonic phones, they really do have a lot going for them. They look good in design and have a good size and range of buttons of both of the handsets. The installation of the phones was very simple and I didn't need to refer to the instruction booklet once. Although having since looked at the instructions these are basically idiot proof and simple to follow which is exactly what you want when reading instructions.

We bought these two phones from Argos as I say about a year ago and paid a little over £30 for the twin set a price that I found rather cheap compared to the previous phones we had purchased. We had bought BT in the past because I felt that it was a company that would surely know how to make the best phones (how wrong could you be!) We had nothing but trouble with our two sets of BT phones and gladly swapped to using a different handset brand.
Apart from the cheap price of these Panasonic phones, they really do have a lot going for them. They look good in design and have a good size and range of buttons of both of the handsets. The installation of the phones was very simple and I didn't need to refer to the instruction booklet once. Although having since looked at the instructions these are basically idiot proof and simple to follow which is exactly what you want when reading instructions.
The handsets themselves are black in colour and sit nicely in small sized holders. The main handset has a slightly larger base unit than the second although this is still relatively compact. The main base unit has a search and find button which when pressed gives off a beep on the phone allowing and lost handsets to be found. Of course this means that the handsets themselves are cordless and have a good range when moving about the house. We only have a flat so the range doesn't really have to be too good for us but the specifications of the phone boast a 50 meter range (so I could sit out in my car and use the house phone although I haven't tried that one yet!).
The handsets sit in the base units all the time and it says in the instruction manual that this will not affect the battery life and once it has charged to the limit it will not continue to try and charge meaning it is not wasting power or battery life. However I have been known to leave the phone out of the cradle for a good few days at a time and the battery has still had enough life to make a call so I would say the stamina of the phones is good. The specifications of the phone say it has up to 15 hours talk time and 160 hours of standby life which again is a good lengthy amount.
The functions of the Panasonic phone are rather basic but easy to use and really all you need in a home phone. It has caller display, a feature that is a godsend! You can store up to 50 names and numbers on to the phone which for us is more than enough (sadly as this means we have few friends – plus I do believe we have rather a few takeaways stored!!!). The phone will also remember the last 10 people that you have called, names if they are stored in your address book or number if they are not.
We have the phones set to a standard classic ring tone but there are 10 different ones to choose from although some of these seem a bit too techno for my liking but there are plenty of non-offensive ones to choose from. The volume of both the ring tone and the actual calls made on the phone is of a nice loud quality. You are able to turn the handset volume up or down but we find that having them set to the highest volume position gives a nice loud ring that we will never miss. Our last BT phones had the problem that even with the volume up full I could still hardly hear the other person talking on the line and I was worried that these cheaper phones would have the same problem but I needn't have worried as the quality of calls when using this Panasonic phone is nothing other than perfect.
I have no problems when making or receiving calls and I have had no interference whatsoever which is vastly different from when we used to make calls on our old phones. Both handsets work equally as well as each other which is what you would expect and if we ever needed to we could always buy a single phone of this make and model to boost the amount of phones we have in the house. There is the option to have up to six handsets in one house (although unless we move to a palace I don't think we are ever likely to need six!).
The phones also have added features such as loudspeaker which is brilliant when I want my toddle to speak to his Nana as I can hear what she says and prompt him on what to say. This again has a wonderfully clear reception and is of a loud enough volume so that we can hear what is being said very well. On the opposite side of this there is a secrecy button which allows me to confer with my other half whilst on the phone to various companies without them hearing what was being said. This is a handy option but perhaps not one that is used as much as the loudspeaker.
Jack is always playing with the phones and I have learnt the hard way to secure the phone. He was once chatting away on the phone and I assumed he was not talking to anyone merely pretending however after taking the phone off of him and hearing someone on the end I was gob smacked to find out that he had dialled 999! The operator was not best pleased (rightly so) and from then on I have always made sure that the phone was locked. This is simply done by pressing and holding the menu button although my partner still struggles to remember which key he has to press to unlock it as it is not pictured on the handset itself.
Both of the phones, when not in use, will display the date and the time which is another excellent feature to have because I can never remember the date. They also will show if you have been out and have missed a call by displaying “1 Call” on the screen and this stays there until you have looked at the call list and seen the number who called.
The phones are easy to navigate round and easy to input names and number into the phone book. The look good and have a long battery life. I have had no problems (fingers crossed I never will) with the making or receiving of any calls. The phones have a lot of useful features and are not bogged down with useless ones so that you feel you really don't know how to use the phones. The instruction booklet is clear and easy to follow but the handset set up itself is so easy that the booklet is really not needed.
I can honestly say that now I have had these phones for a while I cannot believe that they were this good a price. They have everything that one could want from a house phone and a lot besides. They are very much affordable and fit in well with my everyday living.
I would think a 5 star rating is called for for this product and a very high recommendation. I don't think I will ever revert back to buying a home phone from BT and hopefully with these I shan't have to buy any other home phone for a long time as they seem built to last.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you.
