My first thoughts were, "here we go another attempt to get me into the 21st century". I imagined this to be another overcomplicated piece of equipment requiring a PHD to operate. I have to say that my fears were totally unfounded as I now think this is a sensational tool to have.
Firstly it has nice enough to read "1.5" Colour" display which although not massive, I find easy to read. The phone also has a caller ID feature so I can see exactly who is calling me before I answer, although I did have to set this feature up with my phone provider for a minimal monthly fee. The phone will store up to 50 incoming phone numbers, this is very useful if you can't get to the phone quick enough to answer it, or if you are out. The phone will tell you what number called and at what time and allows you to instantly call the number back without having to go through the "1471" rigmarole.
Another useful display feature is the way the keypad lights up when in use. This is particularly useful if you should need to make a call during the hours of darkness as you don't have to fumble around trying to find the light switch or guessing if you are dialling the correct number. I do have a tendency to leave the handset lying around rather than putting it back in the base. Thankfully the battery life of the phone is superb. I have before now left the handset on a Friday, gone away for the weekend, come back on Monday and the phone STILL has plenty enough charge left in it to make calls.
The range from handset to base unit is very good. I can still make and receive calls 2 doors down the road approximately 120 - 150 yards away without any crackling or loss of quality. A very good feature is the ability to use the phone "hands free" . It has a speaker phone facility, very useful if you want to make or receive a call while your hands are tied.
Other useful features are the massive 200 number memory. I now longer need to keep flicking through my diary to get the numbers I need. The keypad can also be used for 9 fast dial numbers where by you can dial your most used numbers at the touch of a button. If you are used to using a mobile, then all the features of this phone will be very familiar, even down to the mobile type design layout. It has features like keypad locking to prevent accidental dialling, changeable ring tones and even the facility to send text messages. For the hard of hearing there is the added benefit of the phone having a jack point to plug in a separate headset.
Included is a built in answer phone that can record up to 40 minutes worth of messages. The messages are all recorded electronically so unlike the older machines, there is no need for mini tapes. Overall I am very very pleased with this phone, and lets face it, if an ageing geriatric like me can get to grips with it, it must be easy to use.
