As a sort-of camera expert I have to tell you - I am impressed with this device.
And here's why:
1. The size The camera is only 9cm long 5cm high and 2cm thick. You could have found that information on any website but I can tell you the implications of that. The size is perfectly matched to fit comfortably in an 'average' human hand. Ergonomics at its best. It's small and lightweight enough to be carried around easily in a pocket and held in the hand, but not so small you have to get out a pair of microscopic tweezers to hold it in place.
2. The lens and the picture: This device has a 4x optical zoom lens with f/2.8 at wideangle, making it very easy for a normal camera user to take a brilliant photo with ease.
3. OIS, ISO and Venus All of these things are simply things that make your picture better. OIS, or Optical Image Stabiliser, could be said to purify photos. Venus Engine III is traditionally used by Panasonic and is a wonderful image processing engine that, in my opinion, is flawless. The camera has Intelligent ISO Control and achieves ISO 1250 at full resolution.
4. Durability/Indestructibility I was using this camera when I was on holiday in spain, dropped it down a (smallish) rocky cliff and it didn't break. I'm sure that can be counted as durable. It barely even scratched. I'm a clumsy sort of guy and if an electronic devices survives me then it is worth buying just for that.
5. Usability The screen on this camera is about 6cm (2.5 inches) diagonally, and the menus are very easily navigated, the on button is easy to find (that's more important than it sounds) and don't forget the processing bit - hooking it up to a pc and transferring the images could'nt really be easier.
All in all, this camera is an astounding, high quality, everything proof and impressive device that I recommend to any level of camera user. Oh yes, it looks nice too.
