"Panasonic Lumix FX60"

The FX60 is the smallest of the Panasonic Lumix range, but this doesn't mean that it lacks in quality and features.

It has 12 megapixels with a 5x optical zoom, which for the size of the camera is impressive. It uses the famous Leica lens ensuring for good quality pictures.

The quality can be near SLR standard at times, with pictures being very detailed on highest settings.

It boasts a number of features, one in particularly good which is the AF (Auto-Focus) feature. This feature gives you the ability to lock on to a target n still keep the focus on the subject even when you move the camera. Perfect for trying to keep the focus on a moving object.

The camera body is fairly strong, with the camera feeling sturdy in a matted finish. The metallic violet finish seems a bit weaker in comparison.

The camera itself is pretty simple to use. Basic functions are one touch operations, with other functions not taking too much effort to take advantage of. Flash, self-timer and even the AF function are all accessible from photo mode so you don't have to go through the menu.

I recommend this camera, to someone who wants good quality photos for everyday situations. It is a great small alternative to a bulky SLR, giving you some good pictures with a camera that can be slipped into your pocket. You won't get the same effect in terms of zoom, but you won't be disappointed with the pictures either.

Manufacturer's product description

The DMC-FX60 features Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" faces. Register the person from the menu by taking his/her full-face portrait with his/her name. Once complete, if the familiar face appears into your frame again, the camera will display the name you specified for that person and prioritize focus and exposure so that the registered face is bright and in sharp focus. Up to 3 persons' names can be displayed at once. In playback, you can choose to display only photos that contain a specific registered face using Category Playback. Face Recognition makes sorting archiving incredibly easy. This advanced Face Detection also features Digital Red-eye Correction. The camera takes care of the red-eye effect that often happens when shooting with a flash, to ensure attractive facial expression. The DMC-FX60 features Quick AF. Ordinary AF is activated when the shutter button is pressed half-way, while Quick AF starts operating as soon as the camera is pointed toward a subject. This dramatically reduces the shutter delay time and lets you take pictures quickly. Its super-fast focus is ideal for capturing quick images of active children and pets. By setting the camera to Quick AF, pictures of sudden shooting opportunities won't be out of focus or blurry. The Intelligent ISO Control function in the DMC-FX60 made possible by the Venus Engine V, detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions. When it detects subject motion, it automatically raises the ISO setting and increases the shutter speed to prevent motion blur. On the other hand, when the subject is still and no movement is detected, it takes beautifully natural photos with a low ISO setting. Intelligent ISO Control gives you stunning images with ease because there is no need for complicated settings.
