Having previously owned a compact other brand camera that was at the end of it's useful life we decided to upgrade when making this purchase. The criteria we requested was to have a substantial zoom function, and be able to take photos without the flash in low light conditions. It has proved to be very good in both these areas. In 'simple' mode it is extrememly easy to use and takes lovely quality pictures, and we are slowly working our way through the more advanced functions and getting some great results despite us being only very amateur photographers. Night time pictures and fireworks were a new photographic area for us and these also came out in good quality. The 'baby' function proved useful for a recent edition to the family - you can enter the baby's date of birth and the age of the child is displayed on the photograph - very clever!
