I treated myself to one of these cameras in the sales after Christmas. I was expecting a larger, SLR-sized camera, but was pleasantly surprised at how light and compact the camera is in reality. The quality of the lens is excellent, and good quality pictures are possible using even the "simple" mode, which allows you to point and shoot like a standard compact digital camera. The beauty of this Panasonic is that it has many functions you would normally only find on a much more expensive camera, such as shutter priority, aperture adujustment and manual focus. The "SCN" or scene mode is also useful, allowing you to quickly set the camera for a number of scenarios such as sports action, candlelight ans sunset. These give very good results and are quick to use so you don't miss out on any special moments. I'm very happy with the camera, which also has excellent battery life.
I would endorse 'noselot's' review entirely. As probably one of the worst photographers in the world I bought my FZ8 in an attempt to, at least, get the objects that I wanted to take in focus. The results are amazing, certainly for me. On our recent trip to Lanzarote I took over 300 pictures, half of which I discarded because I wasn't happy with the layout/angle/light but the remainder were exactly what I wanted. The zoom is quite phenomenal. I notice ... ...the sea wall at Cucharas beach and which was rising and falling in a heavy swell. Bearing in mind that I was not wearning my glasses, using the viewfinder I pointed the camera on full zoom and took the snap. To my delight the picture came out very well and, considering the distance amazingly sharp. I bought my model on ebay for £162 inc post and packing and have to say that it was money well spent. ...

Advantages: Excellent quality, easy to use, but good manual controls as well Disadvantages: Expensive Panasonic accessories.
...unusable.
I do find ultra-violet and polarising filters useful however, but recommend getting generic 52mm screw versions which are much cheaper than the Panasonic items and fit straight on to the supplied lens hood adapter without having to buy the lens adapter which changes the screw fitting to 55mm. ...

Advantages: Optically superior than competitors, feature rich Disadvantages: At this price, none
Bridge cameras like the panasonic fill a much needed gap in the market. If you feel you have outgrown the point and shoot digitals and need a little more control over how your photos turn out but do not want to trade up to full DSLR''s both in terms of cost (there really is a huge price gap between the point and shoot and the cheapest DSLR) and in terms of complexity, different lenses etc, then the 'bridge' camera is for you.
I researched the market ... ...optics. This is where the Panasonic wins every time. Firstly the Leica lens guarantees good optical quality, but also the f2.8 of the lens produces FAR better results. All other features of the camera can be found on the Fuji Finepix ranges and to my mind, offer no other advantages.
If you have decided on a bridge camera (and believe me they offer a perfect compromise between point and shoot and creative photography) then spend that little bit extra ...

Quick review of Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8EB-K
i love this camera :) i have used cameras before but still very much a novice. this is my 1st time with what i would call a real camera - and its so simple! the instructions are so simple too. i usually get them wrapped around my head!
anyone wanting to go for a change or upgrade i think this is the model for you. its lightweight. a reasonable price and i would recommend it to everyone i know.
for people like me, who arent sure, there is a simple mode which does all the guessing for you :) then when you get more confident you can change and make your own decisions.
i just think its an all round excellent find ...

Advantages: Great start for amature pro Disadvantages: A little to heavy
Great camera for photography enthusiasts or people working in graphic design and need a high resolution shot. I compared the photograph quality to my friends, who is a glamour photographer and despite the camera being very user friendly you couldn’t tell between the two, except his camera being very big and less compact! With 7.2 mega pixels, you can have any photograph you shoot blown up to poster size and can print them off at Jessops, it only ...
