Advantages: 10x zoom, OIS, 28mm wide Disadvantages: Uses its own rechargable battery.
...I am quite familiar with Panasonic cameras. That is the reason I picked the TZ2. My friends are so impressed with this camera that they keep stealing it from me.
This may not be the smallest camera out there, but it packs a massive 10x zoom, that include a very useful 28mm at the wide end, better than most other compacts that only goes down to 38mm. This 10mm allows you to pack more into the frame without having to move back as much.
I would say ... ...They used to have a problem with noise, but it seem to be under control on the TZ2. Throw in the "Intelligent" mode, where you can allow the camera to auto select the ISO, but only to a limit set by you, helps to control the noise situation too. The best way to make use of this mode is, for example, at a dinner party, use the normal mode at ISO100 for close up shots of people, and then use the "i" mode at ISO 800 limit for shots across the room. ...

...cheek by jowell with the Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ2 for about eight months now. It lives in a pouch on my trouser belt and never leaves my side. As an ex-freelance photographer for the British press, I always carry a camera, and this little beauty has never let me down. In fact, I can take it out of its pouch, switch it on and be ready for action in less than ten seconds.
In my press days, we used to carry three 35mm camera bodies with a wide-angle ... ...optics and build quality and Panasonic provide the electronics. A combination made in heaven? Try it and see.
There are lots and lots of settings that are possible to make and other reviews go into great detail. I will stress one particular feature that never occurred in conventional cameras but is vital here....colour balance. You need to set this for the prevailing light conditions particular the type of light source. The daylight setting is easy ...

Advantages: Small, tough, easy to use, very very versatile. Disadvantages: No optical zoom (but hey ....)
Panasonic DMC TZ2 digital Camera.
I wanted a camera that I could carry with me - not too large, not fragile, not complicated. I ended up looking at the TZ range. There is little between the TZ2 and 3, apart from the latter having 7 M pixels instead of the 6M pix of the TZ2, so I chose the cheaper one, and have been very happy. This is every bit as good as I'd hoped. It feels solid, there is a nice big LCD screen (just under 2" x 1½") and it is quick ... ...and taking the first shot in daylight. How they get the lens tube to fold so small is a mystery, but when it is switched off there is nothing to catch on your clothing.
The camera has all the basic digital functions, and it is futile to try to cover everything here, but here are functions a bit out of the ordinary, or important or useful to me:
On top is a 10 position knob for selecting functions: Easy, Normal, Intelligent ISO, Macro, Video, two ...

When I first saw this camera it looked a little chunky but when I started to look at the functions it had I was astounded. The camera has a 10x optical lens which is excellent for a more compact camera. The camera has in built intelligent stabilisation technology which means that the camera re-adjusts to a movement when the shutter is depressed by the user to take the photograph. When movement photographs are taken, the whole image is not blurred but controlled so that the movement exists but does not affect the overall result.

...My dad has got a panasonic lumix, so this was also a partial reason for buying this one.
I have got the silver one, and it is fantastic. I need a digital camera every day for my college work, and only having having it for just over a week, it has been brilliant.
Very quick setup time from getting it out the box, and it comes on very quickly when i need it. The only downside to this camera is that it dosnt come with a case or a larger memory, but ...

Manufacturer's product description
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ2 series is the digital camera, which is renowned for packaging a remarkable 10x optical zoom in a compact, stylish body. To further add to its appeal, the DMC-TZ2 goes one step further to feature a 28mm wide-angle Leica DC lens (equivalent to 28-280mm on a 35mm film camera) for wide-angle shooting. The 28mm wide-angle lens opens up a plethera of photographic opportunities, allowing photographers to easily capture a large group of people, or expansive architectural structures and landscapes with dynamic width and rich perspective. The wide-angle lens is particularly helpful in situations where you cannot step back or move away from a subject - ideal for shooting group portraits in a small room for example. The diminutive size of the 6.0 megapixel DMC-TZ2 belies the wealth of technological features. Incorporating a powerful 10x optical zoom in such a slim and stylish body is impressive in itself. Add to this the incorporation of Panasonic's Mega O.I.S that prevents blurring from shaky hands, Intelligent ISO to prevent motion blur, and the high quality, high performance image-processing Venus Engine III to name but a few - and the caliber of these new additions becomes apparent.
