I bought this camera as a replacement for our "family" camera we have used my wife's old 35mm Cannon for taking holiday snaps and felt it was a good time to replace it with a digital. "We" wanted a camera with a good optical zoom, "I" wanted a camera to take good panoramic shots (I have a Sony W900i and use the feature frequently).
There are not many digital cameras on the market that offer a high optical zoom and wide angle, most were either only x4 and a good size or good zoom x20 and a bit too big for us. The TZ3 was smack bang in the middle it gave a good X10 zoom (if I want more I'll switch to an SLR with lenses) and though not small enough to fit in my jeans pocket it fits fine in a coat or my wife's bag.
The TZ3 offers many different shoot modes these are selected via a dial on top of the camera and allow you to quickly switch between them. While I prefer to play around with the settings my other half just likes to point the camera and take pictures. The cameras "simple" mode allows her to do this and I feel that no one would have problems taking a shot with this camera. The image stabilization helps eliminate shaking pictures and though close up this works fine I do have pictures taken at the top end of the zoom that are a little blurred but then again no system is ever going to be 100% perfect.
Other features include a macro mode for taking close up shots, intelligent ISO mode to help eliminate blur on moving subjects and 20 other scenery modes these are Portrait, Soft skin, Self portrait, Scenery, Sports, Night portrait, Night scenery, Food, Party, Candle light, Baby, Pet, Sunset, High sens, Starry Sky, Fireworks, Beach, Snow, Aerial photo and finally Underwater. I have not had chance to try all of them out, but those I have I've been impressed with. I will upload a picture taken using the Night scenery mode at my inlaws as soon as my member rating turns green this will give you some idea of the quility its capable of. Another feature I like and have found useful is the burst mode this has 3 settings and takes pictures in rapid succession, at high speed it can manage 3 pictures a sec. I have used this when taking picture's of football games and get some great shots from it.
The LCD screen is a good size at 3" but I was a little put off at first that it did not have a view finder. Then again most of the other camera's we looked at did not have one either and I think its becoming less common nowadays in compact camera's. The screen itself is bright and even though I thought I might struggle seeing it clearly, so far I've been fine. It also has a power LCD funtion that increases the screen brightness making it easier to see (though I'm sure this will give battery life a hit) and a high angle mode which allows you to hold the camera about you head and still see the screen clearly(another feature good for taking pictures at crowded matches)
The camera uses SD memory cards, I use a 4Gb SDHC card and have had no problems at all with this. The camera also has a small built in 12Mb of internal memory. While this may seem small and pointless(well that's what I thought) It has saved my neck after copying some photo's across to the computer we went out, leaving the card inside my card reader at home. I reduced the settings down to 5.5Mp and still managed to get 7 pictures on it. Also worth a quick note is the film capture mode, we don't have a video camera and use this camera to take any video clips. The camera captures them at 848 x 480 and 30 FPS the clips are great, though even if you have a high capacity card maximum recording time is still 15 mins.
Battery life is excellent I find we only charge it once for a weeks holiday and the battery indicator gives you a good idea of how much life is left. The manual states that is good for 270 picture's at 30 sec intervals but if like us in takes 3 minutes to get the perfect shot this number would probably reduced. We have taken it out with only one battery bar remaining and it still has managed to take 30 pictures and still not run out.
Overall but of us are impressed with our purchase and the old Cannon is finally in the cupboard.
Advantages: Leica wide angled lens, 10x optical zoom, great looks and build quality, large screen Disadvantages: no viewfinder, proprietry battery pack, slightly heavier than the competition
...the Canon A710 and the Panasonic TZ3. Basically I went all out and read tens of reviews of both and I can say I could tell anyone all the features of both by heart. Well here are a few differences and why I chose the Panasonic over the Canon. The first and most obvious difference is the zoom. The Panasonic boasts a nice 10x optical zoom whilst the Canon only has a 6x. Now this may not be a deterrant for some people, but I wanted a superzoom and that's ... ...when I realized that the Panasonic had a Leica lens...well I have to say I almost drooled!!! Next comes the body. I have to black version of the TZ3 and boy it looks and fells good! The Canon looks more professional maybe but not half as good. The build quality of the Panasonic is also impressive. It is mostly made out of stainless steel which makes it feel very sturdy albeit a bit on the heavy side. The big screen at the back looks great (and has ...

Advantages: Fantastic Zoom Lens from Wide Angle to Telephoto Disadvantages: No RAW setting
The TZ3 is a giant step forward in compact digital cameras, It has a fantastic optical zoom lens. At wide angle you can stand very close to your subject and get everything into the picture. At the other end of the zoom you can increase magnification 10 times and it has built in image stabilization to avoid shaky pictures. You can get even further magnification using simple settings from the menu displayed on the massive 3" LCD screen which is also ... ...would expect, it also has added features above others. It has an alternative aspect ratio of 16:9 which means that your pictures are 'panoramic' and can be viewed beautifully on a wide screen. It also has an innovative adjustable display which allows you to lift the camera over a crowd and still see the display clearly. The removable Lithium battery easily lasts for days before re-charging . The number of photos held on your SD card will depend on ...

Advantages: fantastic quality, good all rounder Disadvantages: A little large
recently bought this camera and took it on holiday with me. This is my third digital camera, and I couldn't have been mored pleased. It's 10X zoom covers every situation you might need which is practical. I waited until this model came out because of the higher defenition of 7 megapixels. This camera hasn't got any manual controls like aperture or shutter priority however there are more than enough modes available to use such as:
'Warm' setting, ... ...'Auto-Bracket exposure', which lets you get a perfectly exposed picture when you might only get the one chance.
'Sunset' mode which gave some really punchy sunsets.
'Motion Picture', for some quite pleasing small movies.
The LCD screen is excellent and allows you to look at your photos in high quality. It was very easy to delete rubbish pictures, and you can protect ones you don't want to accidently erase. It also picks up very fine details. The ...

Advantages: excellent for travel Disadvantages: none really
Bought this camera as we were going on a Mediterranean cruise. I wanted a compact camera with wide angle lens for using on the ship but also needed a good telephoto lens as well. I already own a Nikon D80 with 2 lenses covering 18-300mm but didn't want the hassle of carrying it around on a relaxing holiday. This wee beauty covers 28-280mm, there is no constant changing of lenses and the LCD screen can be easily seen even in bright sunlight so the ... ...able to use the camera to read the names of other ships when I did not have binoculars with me! It always amazes me that so few compact digitals come with a wide angle lens and only 2 or 3 combine a wide angle with a long zoom. This camera is great for shooting sunrise and sunset photos using the warm mode and there is a vivid mode for shooting bright colours. I also found the travel mode useful. You just set the start date of your holiday and the ...

I was looking for a camera that would take good pictures without too much intervention from me. Its what I got!!! I just point and click and great pictures every time.
The 10x zoom lense is fantastic, I am able to close up pictures from far away.
However the best feature has to be the image stabalization. I normally have very shaky hands and not one picture I have taken with this camera is blurred, that includes the pictures taken of moving objects.

Advantages: good clear image Disadvantages: not as slim as previous models
...The PanasonicLumixDMC-TZ5 was announced in January 2008, THE earlier model LumixDMC-TZ3 was also really successful. The earlier TZ3 was no doubt the perfect travel camera,a pocketable compact camera.which had 10x optical zoom lens complete with image stabilisation and a 3inch wide screen. It was one of the hit 2007.
the new PANASONICLUMIXDMC-TZ5EB-K is no different, with its 9.1-megapixel having 28mm wide angle 10 optical zoom.the product offes immence clearity of image with amazing resolution .in comparison to other cameras of its range this one surely wins the race.its really easy to operate it .its surely value for money.
its worth having
you won't regret having it
all the best.

Advantages: Great Zoom. Simple to use. Fabulous zoom & image stabalisation Disadvantages: A little bulkier than some
...TZ4 - Make it Snappy
A while ago we bought a Minolta Dimage E500 compact digital camera and although we were content with it, the images under low light could often be poor and the zoom was just too short
So I set about looking for a good compact camera with a long zoom after doing my research we opted for the PanasonicLumixDMC-TZ4 (in black) which we got from 7dayshop.com for £149 + £5 p&p.
The camera is a little larger (103.3 x 59.3 x 36.5 mm) than some of compacts on the market but that is the sacrifice for the larger 10x optical zoom (giving a range of 28mm - 280mm) but this does give it a solid feel which is further helped by the small handgrip moulded into the right hand side of the camera. The zoom is activated by mean of a left / right rocker switch on the top right of the camera with the shutter button in the middle...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 is the digital camera, which is renowned for packaging a remarkable 10x optical zoom in a compact, stylish body. To further add to its appeal, the DMC-TZ3 goes one step further to feature a 28mm wide-angle Leica DC lens (equivalent to 28-280mm on a 35mm film camera) for wide-angle shooting. The 28mm wide-angle lens opens up a plethera of photographic opportunities, allowing photographers to easily capture a large group of people, or expansive architectural structures and landscapes with dynamic width and rich perspective. The wide-angle lens is particularly helpful in situations where you cannot step back or move away from a subject - ideal for shooting group portraits in a small room for example. The diminutive size of the 7.2 megapixel DMC-TZ3 belies the wealth of technological features. Incorporating a powerful 10x optical zoom in such a slim and stylish body is impressive in itself. Add to this the incorporation of Panasonic's Mega O.I.S that prevents blurring from shaky hands, Intelligent ISO to prevent motion blur, and the high quality, high performance image-processing Venus Engine III to name but a few - and the caliber of these new additions becomes apparent.
