We previously owned two analogue camcorders, both Sony. They were good but bulky. So we decided to find a smaller camcorder. We were also looking for a digital still camera. When we found the Panasonic NV DS55B we were in luck! It is compact and comfortable to use. We are not impulse buyers and spent many weeks looking, trying, picking the brains of sales staff, borrowing various camcorders from people to try them out, reading Which magazine reports etc. We love this camcorder and have been using it for three years now.

It came with absolutely everything we needed. All cables for transfer to video, recharger, battery, strap, MMC 4mb storage card, software to upload photos for printing and editing etc. The instruction booklet that comes with it is very clear with pictures to aid you. It has a remote control facility so you can stay seated and edit film on your TV.

We have travelled abroad a lot and it always goes with us. We also have grandchildren so we have taken hours of footage and hundreds of photos. Whilst standing at the top of the Empire State building NYC, we changed the zoom to it's maximum and had really clear pictures and film of the gargoyles on the Chrysler building and at a shuttle launch in Florida, we zoomed in and could see close up features of Discovery. We did find that we needed a larger capacity battery for the length of time we wanted to use the screen (I'm not very good with viewfinders) a generous 2.5" and we bought a 16mb MMC card as we have extended holidays and take lots of pictures that we like to print ourselves.

With the invention of firewire, we went out last year and bought a new PC and DVD software editing package. We chose the PC to go with the camera!

You can delete photos from the photo card straight away if they are not very good so you optimise the space on the MMC card. We have found that the picture quality deteriorates from dusk onwards outdoors but it is fine with indoor lighting.

As you can tell, we love this camera and have recommended it to others who are also impressed.
