Advantages: 3CCD, Firewire Compatability, Near Broadcast Quality, Large Screen, Audio Pickup Disadvantages: Not a huge amount of manual functions
I brought this camera for one reason and it has served its purpose not only how I wanted it to, but it has surpassed its expectations. The purpose was filmmaking.
The selling point of this camera is the fact that it uses 3CCD technology. The point of this 3CCD technology in filmmaking is that 3CCD cameras have three separate charge-coupled devices, each one taking a separate measurement of red, green, and blue light. Light coming into ... ...the appropriate wavelengths of light to its respective CCD. This enables me to pick up fantastic imagery weather it be at night or during the day without loss of colour or clarity. This camera was probably the cheapest mid-range 3CCD camera available at the time.

Light coming into the lens is split by a dichroic prism, which directs the appropriate wavelengths of light to its respective CCD. This enables me to pick up fantastic imagery weather it be at night or during the day without loss of colour or clarity. This camera was probably the cheapest mid-range 3CCD camera available at the time.
I have completed 4 pieces of short film and edited using Adobe Premiere Pro 7. Using the firewire capabilities i was able to capture the footage i had shot on the camera to the editing software quickly and without loss of picture quality which was also a benefit of the extra 3CCD technology. Each of these pieces of film have been acclaimed not only for their narrative but for the clarity, crystalness and broadcast looking picture. It by far surpassed the picture quality of the other student films i had seen shot on other cameras.
The only downside to the camera from a filmmakers point of view is the fact that it does not have many manual features. It does, however, have a manual focus function which is good for shots that need a quick re-focus depending on the light or your own artistic approach to the piece of film.
Also, not in a filmmakers eyes the camera is fantastic, i took it on a hoiday to spain where i captured over 2 hours of footage of people, objects and bright sunlight. No sundammage was evident and when i got the footage onto the computer the image quality was flawless, as if you were still sipping sangria on the beach.
I have not used the SD card slot to take pictures as this seems pointless due to the fact it has a low megapixel output (1.7). If you were intending to buy this for both picture taking and video i would not recommend the camera.
Another plus to the camera is its bulky, durable, "you know you have it on you" feel. I like this as i know that the camera is probably good if i did drop it. It also has an easy tripod attatchment if you were thinking of getting one.
Finally, i would like to point out its accessories. Although not expance, the accessories are sufficient for a casual holiday-maker or student filmmaker as it comes with things like, lens cover, external microphone/zoom control and editing software (poor, i recommend Adobe Pro 7 or above, maybe Avid if you can get hold of it)
In a nutshell, i would highly recommend this camera for a low-budget filmmaker looking for a professional yet affordable edge to his/her films. Or a casual holidaymaker who intends to go on holiday soon and needs a video camera.
From my point of view this camera deserves 9/10 as i will be using it for years to come.
P.s: I brought this camera for i believe...£450, seems to be that price online now anyway...Well worth the extra £100 for the 3CCD
Advantages: Clear, sharp clutter free footage, chunky, easy to use Disadvantages: No DV in - Mic socket not standard.
I always have chosen Sony in the past for the family camcorder as they have never let me down. I just sold my Sony HC18 ( I never keep Technology for too long - move on!). I wanted a 3ccd camera to see just how much better they are. Whats all the fuss about? I was pleasently suprised. For the same money as a 1 chip Sony I got a 3 chip and what a difference! On the new large LCD TV it was amazing. The GS75 gave an almost "news at 10" clarity. Colours ... ...light and chunky at the same time. A good size for my large hands. The joystick menu controls took me 10 minutes to master and the little screen was good to view close to the eye. It has a DV out - direct to the laptop and a MIC, Headphone and AV socket. (careful here - the Mic does not have the standard Jack) SVHS out is there too. Not many features but hey - we can do all that on the Mac or PC now. Stills are OKish but who cares?! we all got 5mp ...

Having sacrificed this model for my new sony, I was quite taken aback having to leave it behind, for the following reasons.
Clarity - really the only OUTSTANDING thing when it comes to this camera. Video quality was crystal clear, audio left a bit to be desired, but then again you've usually either got one or the other with mid-low level cameras unless you can afford it.
Still pictures - were great, BUT quality was sub par to what you could expect ... ...them when you take photos of that once in a lifetime moment.
Colors were great, nice and bright, and night time viewing didnt get to murky which was a nice change.
Stabiliser...sorry it doesnt have one. For one reason or another, this model doesnt include Panasonic's Mega O.I.S. stabilizer. Kick in the teeth right there.
CD help and drivers were great and easy to install, and i was fiddling about with it within minutes of leaving the newly opened ...

Panasonic's new 3CCD camcorder takes the digital video camera an evolutionary step forward by incorporating 3CCD technology in ultracompact models, bringing professional level technology to the consumer, offering superior ease of use.At the heart of the camcorder is the 3CCD camera system- the type used in professional video cameras. Playing a critical role in picture quality, this system, which uses a separate CCD to process each of the three primary components of light provides exceptionally pure, faithful color. Panasonic's advanced 3CCD system gives users greater beauty in three different ways: in color, detail and gradation.Furthermore, Panasonic's Crystal Engine advanced image-processing circuitry helps deliver maximum performance from the CCD camera system. The Crystal Engine processes the signal from each of the three CCDs independently, giving both moving and still pictures outstanding quality. The Crystal Engine digital signal processing LSI suppresses noise and enhances the resolution.
