Advantages Advantages Makes fantastic bread, very easy to use and clean, looks nice, and saves us money.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Initial outlay to buy it is quite a lot.

The first bread maker I ever owned taught me that making my own bread at home was very much what I wanted to be doing. It made baking it easy, and it saved me an absolute fortune. Unfortunately, it wasn't the best bread maker in the world and it certainly didn't make the best bread even if it wasn't bad. As it aged, I started looking round at various bread makers and chatting to online friends on a 'green' (environmentally friendly) forum about which ones others recommended. Unfortunately the really good ones it seemed cost a LOT. Then Christmas came. My mum who is an extremely generous person ... more

Advantages Advantages Gorgeous bread, easy to make, easy to use, cheap bread, healthier

Disadvantages Disadvantages Initial outlay but worth the investment.

We were bought a Delonghi bread maker for Christmas but found that when we opened it, it felt like a piece of cheap tat… certainly not something I'd have thought would be the case with a Delonghi product. I had a look on the Argos website and spotted that the Panasonic SD255 machine had a brilliant 5/5 star rating and was selling at £97.89 - only approximately £5 more than the cost of the Delonghi one, so we exchanged the Delonghi machine for the Panasonic one and are so glad we did; I shall proceed to tell you why. Firstly, it's so easy to operate… I was very apprehensive that I'd end up ... more

Advantages Advantages Variety of breads it can make, simple instructions, lovely taste, well made machine, idiot proof

Disadvantages Disadvantages A little bulky, can't slice bread

When it comes to cooking or baking I am not that particularly good at it, the limits of my cooking skills are beans on toast & heating up soup from a tin. I rely totally on my better half. I heard many good reports about bread makers & decided after reading an alarming report on what is actually in an average loaf of bread that you buy in a supermarket, to start making my own. Any bread maker I purchased would need to be utterly idiot proof, make a selection of different breads to suit the family's varied tastes & I wanted something that could be moved around the kitchen so that it doesn't ... more

Advantages Advantages delicious recipes, easy and flexible to use, pizza, rye, seed, cake and roll options

Disadvantages Disadvantages blade getting stuck in bread, need to be at home when cycle finishes

I've had mine for about 6 months and love it. Although the price tag is hefty (£95-100 new from mainstream retailers, £80 ex-display or refurbished) it is honestly worth it if you love bread. Size: 37x34x26 - imagine a miniature microwave turned on end. Then you have to have space to open the lid, as it's "top loading". The pan sits inside; you can make M, L or XL sized loaves. The smallest size is similar to unsliced loaves in Sainsbury's. To feed a couple, I make one probably every 5-6 days. Options: once the ingredients are in, you can 'rapid bake' a loaf in 3 hours, or standard bake in 5 ... more

    Advantages Advantages Plenty

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I bought the Panasonic SD 253 about 4 years ago and would not be without it - I haven't bought a loaf of bread in all that time and am grateful not to be eating a load of chemicals introduced by the bread producers who only want to get a long shelf life at our expense. It certainly is not the smallest of machines, but should fit under a conventional work top, the height is 37.0cm x 34.0cm wide x 26.0cm deep, I am lucky to have a small utility room and keep the machine on the work surface out there. This one also has a raisen/nut dispenser which is very easy to operate, giving you lots of scope ... more
