I bought the Panasonic SD 253 about 4 years ago and would not be without it - I haven't bought a loaf of bread in all that time and am grateful not to be eating a load of chemicals introduced by the bread producers who only want to get a long shelf life at our expense.
It certainly is not the smallest of machines, but should fit under a conventional work top, the height is 37.0cm x 34.0cm wide x 26.0cm deep, I am lucky to have a small utility room and keep the machine on the work surface out there.
This one also has a raisen/nut dispenser which is very easy to operate, giving you lots of scope for making these delicious breads. The machine will the usual white loaf as well as whole wheat, french, italian, a sandwich loaf (which gives you a medium size loaf with a soft crust and close texture) just right for making your sandwiches, it will even make the dough for your pizzas.
There are also numerous baking options. A normal bake which can take upto 4 hours, a rapid bake, which is roughly one hour, or you can preset your time using the timer - so you could get up in the morning to the wondeful smell of fresh baking bread. There is a select button allowing you different options such as light or dark, size of the loaf i.e. medium, large or extra large, whether you want the crust to be light or dark.
You must ensure that you measure the ingedients exactly - it does recommend that you use butter in the recipe, but I have found that olive oil makes for a better loaf.
There is a great recipe book supplied with the bread maker and gives you instructions from a basic white loaf to wholemeal toTomato Foccacia to Spicy Fruit loaf, so plenty of options to choose from.
I did try white rolls in mine which just makes the dough and you have to shape and place in a warm place to rise, but can't say I was very happy with the outcome.
I would however recommend anyone to get a bread maker, you will never go back to shop bought.

Is it the 255, or 253 that you have reviewed? I've rated as helpful as I know it could have been a typo on your review. x

It would be useful if you could add a few photos of the breadmaker and some of the bread you make. Just made a sun dried tomato and olive bread in mine. Yummmmmm. Fionaxx
