The round shape looks great and I can’t see how a CD player could get much smaller. It feels very well built, and it takes very big bumps (unusually big) to get it to skip. The remote control is useful for whenever you are carrying it around in your pocket or a bag and don’t want to have to reach into your pocket and fumble around for the buttons... and then pressing the wrong one. It comes as a kind of half lead, with a connector in the one end that you plug the headphones in so that you can use different pairs with it. A good feature as the free headphones aren’t the best, and you will probably be better using your own pair.
It takes only a few seconds to scan an mp3 disc, even if there are over 100 tracks on there. Coupled with the extended battery time this means it gives you a big advantage over the standard CD only players. Sound quality is excellent, there is a selection of preset EQs that you can use for different music styles, and a very good bass boost. It has different play modes, such as loop, program and random for if you get bored of the standard running order. All the functions are easy to access and use, and the instructions are easy to follow if you have any trouble.
The only disadvantage that I’ve found, apart from the headphones, is the random function. On my player it seems to play loops of 3 or 4 songs every now and again, and I can’t see why. It can be funny if you think about it.... or maybe not.
It costs around £60 in the shops which represents excellent value, especially with the saving you make on batteries. There are similar models available with almost the same features but no remote for around £10 less if you’re happy to use only the buttons on the player.
If you need a CD/mp3 player for under £100 then this is one you should definitely consider buying.
Advantages: good sound quality, good D sound anti-skip system, earphone remote control, plays mp3 and wma Disadvantages: doesn't support ID3tags
I have had the Panasonic SL SX420 for awhile now, and I am very happy with its performance. I was looking for a cd/mp3 portable player that would be sylish, with long lasting batteries and with a good anti-skip system. SL SX420 offers all of it. The player has a similar design as other Panasonic cd players with the main function buttons (memo, mode, eq, play, stop, ff, rew, nad volume)on the front of the player. The only functions that are on the ... ...you have left.
And finally, Panasonic did really good job with the anti-skip system. I can do almost everything with this cd player without making it skip. People who run with cd players have probably experienced the skipping with some older cd players but my SL SX430 has not skipped once yet.
I love this cd player and would recommend it to everyone who does not want to spend a fortune on a good mp3 cd player but wants to get a quality item. ...

Advantages: excellent performer, last forever Disadvantages: extra base not very effective.
I was very pleased to see the SL MP30 on this website. I still remember when i got my first paycheck at the age of 16 flicking through music catalogues looking at things to buy to fuel my passion for music, i came across lots of CDmp3 players. this was about 4years ago and the memory based Mp3 players were very rare and the memory maximum was about 64MB. That was not enough for me, i needed something to carry atleast 700mb worth of songs, i needed a CDMp3player.
So i finnally found a sony CDmp3 player which i bought and it kept turning off every few days, it was a good player but it wasnt very reliable so i returned it hoping for a replacement. The shop did not have the same sony so they offered me the Panasonic SL MP3CD to keep me happy, even though it was a few pounds more expensive than sony's. I took it grudgingly thinking ...
Advantages: Good basic player Disadvantages: reliability lets it down
-rechargeable batteries on mp3 songs (30 hours with CD data) which is enough for even the longest journey! An AC (230-240 V) adapter is supplied for mains use so you can listen to your mp3s for as long as your little heart desires. The problem with this is that the player is then permanently on standby, so you have to turn it off at the plug so that it is not ?live? and eating up your elecy bill. There is a little battery icon on the display so you know when its about to die on you. I?ve just been reading through the instruction booklet and just realised that you can actually recharge rechargeable batteries inside the mp3player, although I don?t have any rechargeable batteries to try this out with.
PACKAGING
The player comes in a blue and black box with the white Panasonic name in the top left corner and a large picture of the player down the left side ...
Advantages: plays WMA and MP3 Disadvantages: uncomfortable ear piece (just buy some decent headphones)
For many years I wanted an MP3CD player so that I could burn all my MP3s to CD and play them when I go on holiday, but I was thrilled when I found the Panasonic SL SX425S for just £70 which could not only play MP3 but the much smaller WMA - which are roughly half the size but remain the same quality as the MP3
You can cram as many songs as you like onto a CD-R or CD-RW and it will play them, although beware when playing WMA the battery power can go down pretty quickly!
The general layout and style is good, and it looks very attractive, there is also a useful "Hold" button so that when it goes into your pocket you don't change the song by mistake. There is also a great little inline remote control which you can use to quickly access you favourite songs. The system is very easy to use and even without reading the instruction manual ...
