You can cram as many songs as you like onto a CD-R or CD-RW and it will play them, although beware when playing WMA the battery power can go down pretty quickly!

Another of the Panasonic SL SX425S useful features is its display screen which shows the song number you are playing and the time remaining, you can also alter some of the features, so that your songs sound better, for example their is a setting for live songs and for those rock songs which you want a bit more of a beat with!

The general layout and style is good, and it looks very attractive, there is also a useful "Hold" button so that when it goes into your pocket you don't change the song by mistake. There is also a great little inline remote control which you can use to quickly access you favourite songs. The system is very easy to use and even without reading the instruction manual you can figure things out for yourself - basically just play, stop, next track, last track, pause and so on...

The sound quality is excellent, but I really depends on what you put on your CD, if your original is poor then of course the CD version will also be poor. My advice to anyone getting this is the get a good pair of headphones, personally I hate the horrible little ear plugs that came with this device they are extremely uncomfortable and they keep on falling out of my ears!
It also comes with a memory feature to store your favourite songs so that they will play in the order you want, you can also programme it to play a song repeatedly, or all the songs repeatedly or your selected songs repeatedly.
I have dropped this thing so many times and accidentally trodden on it and it has been fine afterwards, battered but no deterioation to the sound quality of the speed of the player, although I should mention that MP3s and WMAs can take a long time for the player to get started when you first put the CD in but afterwards they play fine. Also I noticed that you can't "fast forward" MP3s and WMAs only normal shop bought quality CDs.
Another of the few disadvantages is that it doesn't show the name of the song like some of the more modern players.
Generally good value for money especially if you can't afford the more glamorous iPods!
Advantages: excellent performer, last forever Disadvantages: extra base not very effective.
I was very pleased to see the SL MP30 on this website. I still remember when i got my first paycheck at the age of 16 flicking through music catalogues looking at things to buy to fuel my passion for music, i came across lots of CDmp3 players. this was about 4years ago and the memory based Mp3 players were very rare and the memory maximum was about 64MB. That was not enough for me, i needed something to carry atleast 700mb worth of songs, i needed a CDMp3player.
So i finnally found a sony CDmp3 player which i bought and it kept turning off every few days, it was a good player but it wasnt very reliable so i returned it hoping for a replacement. The shop did not have the same sony so they offered me the Panasonic SL MP3CD to keep me happy, even though it was a few pounds more expensive than sony's. I took it grudgingly thinking ...
Advantages: good sound quality, good D sound anti-skip system, earphone remote control, plays mp3 and wma Disadvantages: doesn't support ID3tags
I have had the Panasonic SL SX420 for awhile now, and I am very happy with its performance. I was looking for a cd/mp3 portable player that would be sylish, with long lasting batteries and with a good anti-skip system. SL SX420 offers all of it.
The player has a similar design as other Panasoniccd players with the main function buttons (memo, mode, eq, play, stop, ff, rew, nad volume)on the front of the player. The only functions that are on the side of the cd player are hold and open button. Some of the functions (volume, hold, eq, play/stop, ff, and rew) are also on the remote control which really makes it easy to control the cd player when you have it in your pocket or in your backpack.
The sound quality of the discman is excellent and very clear. It has s-xbs, s-xbs+, live, an normal eq settings. The volume goes all the way ...
Advantages: Good basic player Disadvantages: reliability lets it down
-rechargeable batteries on mp3 songs (30 hours with CD data) which is enough for even the longest journey! An AC (230-240 V) adapter is supplied for mains use so you can listen to your mp3s for as long as your little heart desires. The problem with this is that the player is then permanently on standby, so you have to turn it off at the plug so that it is not ?live? and eating up your elecy bill. There is a little battery icon on the display so you know when its about to die on you. I?ve just been reading through the instruction booklet and just realised that you can actually recharge rechargeable batteries inside the mp3player, although I don?t have any rechargeable batteries to try this out with.

Manufacturer's product description
The new shock proof technology in Panasonic Portable CD Players has been designed to guarantee smooth skip-free music. Clam Shock Proof Technology has been developed to counteract vertical, horizontal and rotational shocks. Using a 3-step process of recovery, reading and storing data, the back up memory enables the CD player to keep pumping out music even if your exertions mean it is taking a knock or two. It uses its large capacity memory to combat delays that can be caused by shocks and fluctuations in the speed of the disc's rotation to give you the perfect music experience. Furthermore its slim mechanism holds and protects the CD from surrounding vibrations and the rubber used in its construction makes it exceptionally good at absorbing shocks. Panasonic Clam Shock proof Technology means that your CD Player is truly portable as it reduces or eliminates skipping during most active uses.
