Advantages: Good value, good image quality Disadvantages: Sound quality is probably the major disappointment here, not a true 1080p screen
...would have been nice. Newer panasonic models have an SD card slot - you can use this to view photos from your digital camera on the tv, but only if you use SD cards in the camera note, which is not the case for many of us.

Having recently purchased this television - it has encouraged me to write my first Ciao review.
APPEARANCE: Its a good looking TV, shiny black edges and very flat - good for wall mounting. PS this tv does not come with a pedestal or wall mount - these have to be purchased separately.
CONNECTIVITY: I found it to be a little licking in this. It has 2 HDMI, 2 Scart, Component inputs, Audio in and our as well as RF in and VGA. Although this is quite a range, I think that it could be better - S-VIDEO would have been nice. Newer panasonic models have an SD card slot - you can use this to view photos from your digital camera on the tv, but only if you use SD cards in the camera note, which is not the case for many of us.
PICTURE QUALITY: Excellent - this is why I love Panasonic. Having asked many professionals before purchasing the general consensus is that for 42" and above in size - to still go for plasma over LCD technology and that Panasonic and Pioneer were at the front of the fiend. The Pioneers models are generally a bit more expensive so I chose the panasonic. An excellent feature is the 10000:1 contrast levels - the screen always looks bright and images tend to look sharper because of this.
Having compared many TVs before purchase, this tv was selected as it is excellent at displaying whatever signal you input - e.g. digital tv, even analogue looks quite good, dvds are shown very well evem via scart and hd signal via HDMI is phenomenal. Surpisingly, many of the plasma and LCD tvs available are not especially good at displaying normal digital TV (not HD). This panasonic does a very good job of this (but I still think the images still look poorer than they did on my old tube TV (as I am sure many will agree)). Even VHS (video casettes) was watcheable.
Specifications wize, its an HD ready but I was almost put off by the fact that it isnt what the industry is calling 'Full HD' or '1080p'. I would say to any thinking the same that you should not let this bother you unless you plan to do any of the following:
1) Use a Sony's PlayStation 3 - these can output at 1080p so will look best on a true 'full HD' tv 2) You have or are planning to purchse a HD DVD or Blu Ray player 3) You wish to use the TV as a computer monitor as this resolution will improve the viewing experience
Even if you are doing one or more of the above - this TV has 1080p processing chipset and will still work - put it will scale the images down to fit the screen - I have seen this occur on the screen and the quality is still excellent but many claim that you really do need a true 1080p to take advantage of a playstation 3.
SOUND QUALITY: I have to say I didnt think this was particularly good - the base was lacking I thought (even after increasing it in the menu). For the best experience you really need to invest in a surround sound system but the inbuild sound bar will suffice for many for normal TV viewing.
The tv looks durable - Im a bit worried about getting scratches on the shiny exterior (an inevitability in our household with all the kids!)
I think that value for money this TV is excellent - well under £1000 - including pedestal for us - quite a bargain.
Advantages: Size, picture quality, quite stylish Disadvantages: None found
...beautiful ,but the designers at Panasonic have done their best and the TH 42 PX 70 is bevel edged, with black framing of the screen so it does manage to look reasonably elegant.
The main feature is of course the screen. In my opinion, this size fits well into a living room. It is a bit of a focal point, but does not dominate the room too much.
The resolution is excellent. The picture is clear and detailed (737280 pixels), with good colour balance. ... ...in the sticks). The picture also looks natural and less harsh than on some TVs that I have seen. The flat screen reduces reflection and as it does not curve at the edges, it provides you with less distortion.
The TV has 2 scart connections to allow connection to DVD, games players etc. I have played a couple of games, connected to the TV and even fairly basic graphics looked really good.
Sound quality is good, clear and without any background odd ...

Advantages: Stylish, excellent picture and very good price Disadvantages: Digital sources are better viewed through matching DVD recorder
...especially when paired with the panasonic stand.
After considering whether to but LCD or Plasma went for plasma after seeing how unwatchable a water skier was on LCD. the plasma screens where so much smoother an panasonic is a leader in its field.
The TV comes with 2 HDMI sockets, 2 Scarts and a composite input which is pretty good. It doesn't have the SD slot of the next model up but no huge loss but does have the Viera link to panasonic DVD recorders ... ...better viewed from a matching panasonic DVD recorder with 1080p upscaling rather than the upscaling from the internal circuits.
Panasonic claim a 60,000 hour lifespan for this model whcih is 30+ years of viewing and have incorporated new technology to avoid any potential screen burn which was a problem for earlier generation plasmas. However, if you run in the TV by watching with the contrast down for the first 100 hours, the longevity will be much ...

Advantages: Excellent Picture Quality and Value Disadvantages: Only 1 HDMI autoswitches.
I have had this TV for six months now and am extremely happy with it. Having owned a couple of 32" Toshiba LCD screens before I bought this I wanted to steer very clear of LCD. I have found that the picture quality is superb, especially notable on standard definition sources. This is where all my previous flat panels have fallen down. I find that a high percentage of SD sources are as good as quality CRT screens.
I use the screen with Sky HD, PS3 ... ...excellent on SD and outstanding once you enter the realms of HD.
There are two features about this TV that irritate me, the first is that only one of the HDMI sockets is auto switching, the second is that you need to hold the power button on te remote down for about 3 seconds to put the tv into standby! ...

IT HAS A V REAL 2 ENGINE WHICH MEANS THE PICTURE PRO CESSING IS FANTASTIC. EVEN WHEN WATCHING A OLD FILM VIA HD DVD WAS SUPERB PICTURE QUALITY.
