I've had this beast of a television for some time now and it's never failed to impress.
Instruction manual The instruction manual is clear and makes the television very easy to assemble. The pictorial 'quick start guide' makes the nightmare jungle of leads behind seem quite simple to put together.
The television The main body of this television is extremely attractive (black only). It comes with it's own stand but it's not obligatory to use it (as is common with some surround sound televisions).
The screen, as the name suggests, is 29" and the surround sound quality is excellent.
There are four speakers, and they are colour coded to aid connection to the main television. The on-sreen menu can be used to optimise the speaker setup.
As far as connecting to a VCR, this is aided by a VCR test signal setting (which is certainly on Panasonic VCR's). Teletext is a standard feature (as is common these days).
On screen menus Almost all features on this television are accessed via an on-screen menu via the remote. This includes tuning, the sound menu, and setup(including an aspect function to mimic widescreen).
The sound menu is by far the most interesting - giving three modes in Dolby Surround Sound - Normal, Cinema (with added simulation to create the effect of being in a cinema) and 3-channel mode (a mode to use when only the front two speakers are connected). The last mode raises the question 'why buy a surround sound television if you are not going to use the maximum number of speakers).
There is also a 'simulated mode' whereby different sound effects can be mimicked. These are disco, drama, movie, church, stadium, and cosmos. To be honest the only ones of these that I've found convincing are the drama and movie settings - the others seem too gimicky. All in all I've found the non-simulated Surround sound to be best.
Overall An impressive television which I'd recommend to anyone.
One note of caution though - should the television ever fail to operate it may not be the fuse in the plug that has blown. For some reason Panasonic had put a 5amp fuse on the plug (which should probably have been a 3amp). There is another 'internal' 3amp fuse which is more likely to blow in this instance. So either change the fuse yourself to 3amp on the external plug or check the internal fuse before calling out a tv repair man. Advantages: Stunning sound, and picture to die for! Disadvantages: auto adjustment for widescreen affects quality, no surround sound
When i went on holiday to Yorkshire for the weekend recently, the cottage we stayed in had this jazzy number for our pleasurable use. It was excellent! The picture was crisp clear, thanks to the help of the AI automatic picture control. Another astounding feature was the sound, it could certainly pack some punch! Although the speakers on each side look a little weak, the case is excellently designed to make the most of the deceptively powerful speakers ... ...use. The simple, yet colourful menus allow this television some character and style. The interface is so simple even my parents could do it, and they were also impressed by its all-round quality. The 2 SCART sockets and front AV sockets also allows for anyone to plug in whatever they want. DVD, digital TV, and even your games console in the front can all be plugged in simultaneously and you won't get ghosting between the different devices!
The widescreen ...

Advantages: Good appearance and easy to use Disadvantages: Poor alignement in widescreen mode
We have recently bought a Panasonic TX28 DK1 - the nicam widescreen, but non-flat screen and non-dolby version, of their 28" tv.
It looks great and has easy to use functions and menus.
Only problem we have spotted is in the widescreen modes. I've read from looking around that you can get "s'ing" on the vertical edges of widescreen tv's in 4:3 format, but the TX28 DK1 has a similar problem on the top and bottom horizontal edges too.
The edges have ... ...was simply rotation of the guns at the back of the tube, but they are fixed (the engineer has had a look!).
We rejected the first set but the second is exactly the same, making me think this is not an isolated problem we have been unlucky enough to get.
Take a look when buying it. Otherwise its a great tv. ...

Most widescreen tV's are roughly the same and in fact this one is no different. Yes some may have extra features but most things are the same.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the things that all widescreens have in common including this on is a wider screen. Instead of the usual 4:3 ratio it is now a 16:9. Yes you can see the whole picture that is usually missed off from the page on normal TV'S but in my opinion the ... ...look fat! (Perhaps this is an irrelevent point but you read this for my opinion and im giving it to you)
Another main Feature found on widescreens is sound control, there is a different sound setting for every different type of programme you want to watch;
Movie- This makes the sounds more full giving more impact in important scenes. This feature also uses the surround sound feature also found ...
