Ok, so I am the first to write an opinion on this courier and as you may already have guessed by the title, I’m not particularly impressed! I’m not going to prattle on about the services they ‘promise’ to offer in this opinion, if you want this kind of information, then you can find it at www.parceline.com. I’m pretty sure if you are reading this opinion, you will want to know the consumer view.
Where does my story start? It actually started with my last opinion; my speakers! I ordered these speakers from Jungle.com and Parceline just happened to be their choice of courier, unluckily for me! As you may have gathered too, it wasn’t a difficult item to deliver, not was it particularly bulky – just a set of speakers! But somehow Parceline got it a bit wrong.
Like the majority of people I am usually out during the day so home delivery either takes a bit of planning or is a bit hit and miss. Parceline tried to deliver my speakers on Friday before bank holiday Monday. I was at work so they left a sheet of paper asking me to call their call centre to arrange a different delivery date. I did this the same day, before 6pm as requested on the note. I did get a little annoyed at this point as I was kept on hold for the ‘next available operator’ for about 10 minutes (I was a lucky one as my friend was kept waiting by Parceline for 20 minutes until someone answered their call). I didn’t like the fact that it was a central call centre 0870 number and would have much preferred dealing with the local depot.
I got through and arranged delivery for the next working day, which was Tuesday. Delivery could be at any time from 8.30am until 6pm unless you want to contribute further to their profits and pay extra for a specified morning, afternoon, evening or Saturday delivery, even then you could not specify an exact time. Having paid the Jungle p&p charge, I certainly wasn’t going to pay Parceline any extra! Anyhow, I ensured that I worked from home that day so I would be in to take delivery of my speakers.
Four o’clock came and I got a little suspicious as normally couriers do most of their delivery in the mornings. Five thirty I looked to see that on the sheet they left, there was a website where you could track orders. Hmmm! There were loads of numbers on that sheet, all of which could have been my consignment number needed to track my delivery. After a few attempts I got it right – only to see that my parcel was still being held in their ‘local’ depot 50 miles away! I was furious! I had stayed in ALL day to collect delivery of my parcel. Had I not specified a day it would be ok, but I actually arranged it for that day!
So I got straight on the phone to them to ask what the hell was happening and to make sure I hadn’t made a mistake. Sure enough the person at the other end agreed that I was supposed to have received my parcel that day but with only 30 minutes to go before the depot closed it was very unlikely that I would receive my parcel that day! I started ranting down the phone at the poor customer services girl and she got on to the depot to see why they hadn’t delivered.
Their response only made me more furious! They just said it was still sitting there, 50 miles away and they wouldn’t be able to get it to me that day, tomorrow would have to do. Apparently they didn’t answer her when she asked why it wasn’t delivered the day arranged. Forgotten? Too far? Too inconvenient? I just had to guess the reason! I spoke (or shouted at!) to the team supervisor expressing my disgust at their lack of customer service mentioning that I had taken a day off work specifically. All they said was that their next day service wasn’t guaranteed. Just as a matter of interest I have copied a quote from their website:
“Next day – For assured delivery in the UK before close of business the following day.”
Assured?! That’s the biggest joke of all! I was told to take it up with Jungle as Parceline’s contract was with them and not me! Here I have had to be realistic about the time and costs involved with me taking this up with Jungle – normally I would take it further out of principle, but I really do not think I will get anywhere. I just hope Ciao passes on my opinion of disgust to consumers/businesses who are thinking of actually using Parceline as their preferred courier. Their total lack of concern for the consumer is disgusting, especially the Thetford depot (my ‘local’ depot) that failed to provide a reason for non-delivery.
To conclude, I certainly would not use them again by choice – their attitude was appalling both at call centre and at depot level. Next day delivery really means that they deliver when the hell they like, regardless of when you arrange!
Parceline are now known as DPD and have vans with a simple red and black logo on them.
I have been using them for years as I run a small business and have both suppliers that send items to me and have used them to send items out to customers too.
With the amount of parcels I have sent, there will be inevitably a few issues every now and again but I must say that on the whole, any issues have been usually resolved quickly and simply.

1) Customer was definate about his postcode being correct. It turned out that this customer had asked a nearby neighbour what their streets postcode was. Some streets have more than one postcode and he had been using the wrong postcode for years. This sent the courier looking in the wrong direction for his named (not numbered) ...

...reviews on this site about Parceline I relised that many many people are not happy with this company, though many of the reviews are from a few years ago, I feel I'm in quite a privaliged position here as I have worked for them for three years and have also been an occasional customer.

I then became an acting supervisor and I worked in the office, to provide ...

Advantages: Use their webtrack facility to confirm that they're holding your parcel hostage Disadvantages: I have to work for a living which is incompatible with Parceline.
Parceline have clearly invested a lot of money in technology to track packages, however when it comes to the simple things like, say, being able to deliver at reasonable times for working folk, and basic customer services then it all falls apart.
A couple of days ago I ordered a new phone through O2 (delivered next day no problems by another courier), which unfortunately didn't work, so they arranged a Parceline 'Swapit' service so I could give ... ...to go wrong. Parceline will only deliver between 8am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, which is of absolutely no use to me and I suppose 95% of other working people. The second option is to arrange redelivery where you can specify 8am-12pm or 12pm-6.30pm for an exorbitant £5.95. This again is not helpful because even if I take a half ...

Advantages: Quick, efficient, friendly. Disadvantages: None that I have encounted.
Having just had two very different experiences with parcel firms this week, I thought that I would write two reviews based on my experiences. It seemed only fair to praise the good at the same time as damming the bad.
I have just taken delivery of a parcel from the Royal Mail.
It was posted yesterday, it arrived today (Saturday), the driver was polite and friendly.
The box in which it arrived was not damaged or marked in any way.
I could not fault the service I received in any way, if only all couriers took the same level of care, then life would be a lot less stressful.
My experience this week with another courier (Parceline) was not quite as stress free (written in another review). ...

Advantages: None (that I can see) Disadvantages: Appaling lack of customer service & many others
I have recently purchased a phone from Vodafone's online store. Got a very good deal too. I booked a delivery for Tuesday 21st January 2005. Great.
Tuesday comes, and I wait in all day, I was promised an afternoon delivery on that day and thinking that Vodafone was not going to fob me off -waited in all day. 4:00 comes, and I start to get anxious, so I call Vodafone's customer service number, and am informed that it was 'Mislabelled by Carrier' - so, no phone for me today. They would deliver it tomorrow.
Except I couldn't be in on Wednesday, so I requested it to be delivered to a different address - 'No problem man....' 4:00 approaches again, so I decide to ring the customer service helpline again - only to be told that it has once again been mislabelled and sent back to Birmingham that morning (apparently all of Parceline ...
Advantages: Categorically, unequivocally- NONE. Zip, zilch, zippo!! Disadvantages: Wasted time; professional liars; rudeness; arrogance- you name it.
I'll keep this review concise and to the point. Two days of waiting around, countless telephone calls to (politely) enquire as to where my package is, constant frustration.
I have never experienced such a low standard of service from a delivery courier service in my life. I've shopped on the Internet for over seven years now, and have 'used' many companies, including: Business Post; City Link; DHL; UPS; Parcelforce; Royal Mail; and Parceline. I had the misfortune of 'using' Amtrak a couple of years ago, and that resulted in my parcel being delayed by a few days (and only got it after several 'phone calls to the supposed Head Office).
Last Friday...
Unfortunately, I didn't know that the online retailer used Amtrak, so imagine my dismay when I received the despatch email; I knew there'd be problems, but didn't anticipated this ...
