This is one of our favorite products, here at mobile radio fitter we fit up a lot of them. Back in the day handsfree kits were kinda hit and miss. when they worked it was great and then it wouldnt work (a pain).
Parrot have cracked it... with the Mki9100. A quick backround..... Parrot launched a few handsfree car kits back in 2003-2004. The massive successful CK3000 and CK3100. These are still being sold and fitted today.. The CK3100 is so popular it knocked the market leader Nokia off the top spot. Offering caller ID in a handsfree kit. phone book sync and voice dialing. rounding it up in a nifty little LCD display. So what gave Parrot such a good name and kept the products at the top of the handsfree chain ? Software... rather than follow suit with other manufacturers and bin a product for a new one year to year, Parrot developed the way they can update the kits software. Straight off the Parrot web site. Giving companies like mobileradiofitter the ability to update these kits via a laptop..
The review, Parrot Mki9100. So Parrot developed this kit right from day one. Like the kits before it, They kept with a nice display. a kind of Bio lite really clear blue against a black backround, with their world famous menu. Also the display is detachable, simply slide upwards and place into the pre provided cloth wallet.
The Brain, (blue box, controller) is small enough to mount behind every dash board or centre console. The Power harness is pre wired to the Euro ISO plugs. Meaning with a simple SOT (sound on top) lead there is no wires cut or joined. I call it a dealer fit. The microphone is a twin echo cancelling type, one mic listens to noise and the other to your voice, the one listing to outside noise cancels this out when in use, making vey clear call quality.
The best bit yet it the docking cable, again a pre wired cable that come from the blue box to anywhere of choice, typicly one meter away. This houses a deadicated Ipod cable, with charging, USB for music and also this doubles up as the way to update the kit, and a 3.5mm jack. for any headphone jack plug socket found on most MP3 devices. I recently fitted one into a Mercedes ML270, and what a solution, giving the driver handsfree calls, and........ Ipod, USB and 3.5mm. This kind of update kit from the Mercedes dealer would be in eccess of £1500.00. The Parrot Mki9100 £179.99. (kit only price).
Looks : Very neat, very clear. good finish in a gloss black. see pics. 9/10 Functions : Loads, Not only does it do all the above, but its the way it does it, Plug an Ipod in and then search the Ipod through the kit, It even has the same layout as the Ipod, Artists, Albums and more. Plug an Ipone in and it pops up a new Iphone icon, select it and off it goes, Artists, Albums etc. while charging. USB is the same. simply pre load a USB with music, plug into the kit and again, after selecting USB, then Artist, Albums etc. I like the USB function most of all, as it can be left in the car, because USB sticks dont need charging or maintaining. Function gets 10/10
Phone use : again its strong with this. So after pairing your phone, simply settings, bluetooth, pair new phone, pass code (0000) done. It then syncs the contacts from the phone. when complete. Simply select contacts, scroll through A to Z until you have found the person you want to call, then select call. Meanwhile as your doing this, the menu comands and even phone book names are being called out by the kit. (aa defult setting this can be turned off) Also supports voice dialing. Teamed up with a very good quality mic it makes calls simple.. Phone use 10/10
You will notice in the pics theres a remote control, or navi wheel. This is the users interface to access the kit. best yet its wireless. operating on a CR32 battery. This remote has a navigation wheel (button), answer and end call buttons, play, pause, track skip right and left. It comes with a sticky pad which can be stuck almost anywhere, or theres a steering wheel strap,
Ease of fitting : Ok this is a tricky one, I have fitted them into alot of cars, lorrys, motorhomes too. All i can say is some easy some hard, but this is governed by the vehiche its being fitted to. The kit itself I would say, out of ten, ten being hardest, 7/10
Its hard to think how handsfree devices can improve on the Parrot Mki9100. It really is state of the art at this time.. Overall score has to be 10/10. I recommend anyone to go see one in action or call your local mobileradiofitter. Lots more images at www.pbase.com/mobileradiofitter
