There is an old saying that parsley grows fantastically when a pregnant woman is tending the plant.
The ancient Greeks associated it with death and crowned victors at funeral games with wreaths of parsley.

·Growing Guide:
Sow: March, April Harvest: June, July It grows to a height of 30cm / 12 inches Re- seeds itself so give it plenty of room
· Soil preparation:
Parsley needs plenty of root space and would benefit for being planted in a well dug rich soil due to poor germination. Parsley grow very well in full sun but also does well in partially shaded areas.. Parsley is a biennial herb but I found by the second-year the plant growth tasted tough and bitter.
·Planting:
Parsley seeds seem to take forever to germinate, often it will take up to six weeks to get them to appear so sow the seeds outdoors when the soil is quite warm. You can help the germination by soaking the seeds in warm water for 24 hours or at least overnight before you plant them.
· Spacing:
Once your seedlings appear thin them out to 8 to 10 inches apart. Where they will soon start to fill up the space between them
·Maintenance:
You must water your Parsley frequently, especially during a hot dry spell. I had some parsley in pots back in April and a hot day in the sun made my plants wilt and the beautiful curly leaves turned yellow. Do not over water your plants though and you can feed with a nitrogen rich fertiliser which will help to produce fresh new growth. Try not to let your parsley flower as the plants will start to put all their energy into making seeds instead of leaves..
·Harvesting
If you just snip at the individual outer stems of the Parsley plant; they will continue to produce new growth all through the season . Parsley both dries and freezes very well. And If you dry it you can crush it in your hand and then store it in an airtight container. Parsley tends to keep its nice green colour when dried or frozen
·Problems with Parsley:
Although parsley can be plagued by Carrot weevils and parsley worms I have only ever been plagued by aphids on my plants. A spray of water usually works to remove them and aphids hate eucalyptus oil so I usually put a teaspoon of this into my washing up water and spray the parsley with this. · Benefits of Parsley:
When I had problems with glandular fever as a child , my grandmother used to make up a parsley poultice to place on my swollen glands and make me drink parsley tea made from the seeds. I hated the taste as a child but actually like it now and am fit and healthy.

Advantages: Makes a delicious sauce, good for you Disadvantages: Slow growing, needs warmth
I love parsley but I find it requires a fair bit of patience as its quite slow growing. However, this maybe because I live in Scotland where the climate is cooler than the rest of the UK. I don’t remember it being quite so difficult when I lived in Birmingham. Parsley plants are readily available in garden centres but you can grow it from seed. However, parsley seeds require a relatively high temperature to germinate. So when you have sown the seeds ... ...over the slow growth of parsley seeds but they have always eventually got going.
Parsley plants can continue growing in a pot or the ground but where ever you choose it really should be warm and sunny. If it is slow patience will eventually be rewarded and its so satisfying to nip off a few sprigs and make one of the best sauces around – Parsley Sauce. I make mine the easy way. I first make a white sauce with cornflour, (see packet for instructions) ...

...pleasures in life.I have grown parsley now for over fiften years and it is one of my favourites for sure.
Parsley can be slow to germinate but I start mine off indoors in February in gentle heat on the windowsill.
I allow three weeks for the seeds to germinate the trick is to expect a few not to come up so always sow more seed than what you will need to compensate for this.
Once the young seedlings appear they are tender and vulnerable to frost ... ...great mind blowing flavour.
Parsley is a biennial . This means it is short lived and will run to seed in the second year after sowing . This is normal and therefore I always keep a packet of seed handy . Then I can replace the life expired plants and I don't run out.
It is possible to pick parsley all year round this way as long as you provide indoor protection in the winter.
I use parsley in sauces for fish etc , with potatoes and in soups . ...

Active:naturals washing up liquid with extracts of parsley and lemon
As one who seems to spend life washing up (as opposed to having a washed up life, I suppose), I have yet to find the perfect washing up liquid. One that smells nice, doesn?t mess up my skin and that actually serves to wash up. So, as part of this quest, I have tried this product and bring you my findings.
This one is made by Sainsbury?s and priced at 79p for 500 ml. It comes in an uninspiring squat and squeezy clear plastic bottle with a pull-up top. It dispenses relatively efficiently, but like all washing-up liquid bottles, it does get slightly messy in use and this one can?t even be made into a rocket (Blue Peter style) once the contents have gone. The bottle does have indentations making it easier to grip ? but if you hold it in the way suggested by the shape ...
Advantages: Good value and dogs love them Disadvantages: You need to like the smell of eucalyptus
Having recently acquired a young puppy I find I have a whole new range of products to try out on the supermarket shelves. I like to find little treats for him and as I recently read a review on these treats I thought I would look for them the next time I was in Tesco so that I could try them out on my puppy.
What are they?
They are little bone shaped biscuits which are about three inches long and which are flavoured with Eucalyptus and Parsley. According to the packet they also contain natural oils for healthy skin and coat. They come in a fairly plain box which is white with a picture of a sad dog on the front and there is no real indication on the packet how big the biscuits are inside. That probably isn't a problem for anyone with a big dog but if, like me, you have a small dog then it haleps if you have an idea how big ...
