Dolmio Bolognese Sauce is another one of those products that get me all excited, when they are put on offer at my local Morrisons. Even my other half, (who sleep walks most of the time) knows this. If he's out doing the grocery shop on his own and see's a bright yellow tag displayed next to these heavenly jars, then his internal alarm starts ringing, alerting him for the promotion he'll get in my books for picking up at least 10 of these jars at ... ...sauce and because it's a Dolmio product, you don't have to worry about how it's going to taste because it always turns out good.
Not only do I use it with the mince for spagetti bolognese, but for lagsania, pasta and even curries. Of course I add some of my own spices to it, but the point is without this sauce I wouldn't have a base to work on.
My favourite way of working with this sauce is to start of by frying 2 large chopped onions in a little ...
Advantages: Good value and regular special deals Disadvantages: None
Dolmio Creamy Tomato Pasta bake is an exceelent easy to use ready made sauce and reasonable value at aroung £1.70 a jar.
You can simply cook some pasta like Penne or otherwise and then pour the sauce over the top and, if preferred, sprinkle a bit of cheese over the top and bake in the oven for around 15 minutes. This gives a lovely creamy cheesy filling pasta meal.
There is plenty of sauce in the jar to feed a family of four and it helps create ... ...the jar and the glass is recycled.
Dolmio regularly offer special deals on products and when they do it is a good time to stock up the cupboards. The product is a really handy one which help make a delicious tea which can be adapted to individual tastes ...
Advantages: Healthy ingredients; low calories, tasty and quick Disadvantages: A little greasy, wish they would ease up on the oil
Loyd Grossman Tomato and Chilli sauce is a regular on my repertoire when I'm looking for a quick meal to prepare after work. They are often stocked in Lidl at £2 for 2, which is a great deal as they tend to be around the £1.70 mark elsewhere. The ingredients list doesn't contain any scary E numbers or unpronouncable ingredients either which is a bonus. In fact, the ingredients seem to be excactly what you would expect in a homemade chilli and tomato ... ...parsley, salt, red chillies and a squeeze of lemon juice. The calorie count isn't horrific either at just 88 calories per 100g. I look at this as a fairly healthy, quick and easy to prepare family dinner. I tend to use a wholewheat fusilli, one that will hold the sauce well, then add some tinned tuna (brine drained away) and mix it all together over a low heat, before seasoning and adding a good grind of black pepper. Simply delicious, quick, nutritious ...
Passata is one of those wonderful products to keep in the back of your cupboard until you feel creative, and then make some lovely food . Passata is essentially just sieved tomato . Unlike your tinned tomatoes, you won't find any chunks in this - its a thickish smooth tomato sauce, on it's own pretty bland, but you can make all manner of things with it - it can replace tinned tomato in any dish, or with the addition of some spices, some worcestershire ... ...very passable bloody mary . The packaging is pretty simple - a foil lines tetra pack complete with lift and snip flaps at the end to make it convenient for pouring, its decorated rather stylishly in red and black, with a lovely picture of some fat and juicy tomatos on the front. For a 500g pack, it costs 42 pence . It tastes, surprisingly enough, or tomato . And thats about it . But as I've mentioned, it's not something you're likely to just eat ...
