A few months back after getting low-lights on my hair, whilst at the til, I decided that I would treat myself and asked my hairdresser to recommend some shampoo and conditioner. She recommended Colour Care shampoo and conditioner. For this review, I am concentrating on the shampoo alone and have used it without the conditioner sometimes.

Now let me fill you in, I go to a ‘middle of the road’ hairdresser paying £24 for a cut and blow-dry. My hair is THICK with red high-lights and greasy although I can usually go 2-3 days without washing it with a regular shop-bought shampoo.

For a ‘designer’ shampoo, the packaging is quite basic really. It’s a straight white bottle with a straight screw top what has a black lozenge-style flat top that you press on one side and the other side pops up with a small rectangular-shaped whole in the side where the shampoo comes out from.

From appearance the bottle has the usual 80’s style font with Paul Michell written in black going up the left-hand side of the bottle. The rest of the words are in black with the words ‘Colour Care Shampoo’ and a small logo if a circle with a broken ring around it in orange.

Well, they state it is for coloured hair (obviously), daily use, and is mild and gentle. It is supposed to extend the life of the colour from the damaging environment. It also claims to contain sunscreens as well as lovely fragrant things such as sunflower, white ginger, jojoba and rosemary.

***THE REALITY OF THE PRODUCT***

Well, I stuck with it and used it daily for a few weeks but then alternated with others. My colour didn’t seem any worse or any better than it had in the past. The product suggests to use a small amount but I found that I needed twice the amount I would usually use to get a decent lather. It also stated that I might not need a second shampoo but I always did. The shampoo was very watery in texture too which meant that I did lose some on the trip up to my head! The only positive point really is the smell, it’s got a lovely, ‘I’ve just been to the salon’ smell to it being subtle yet fragrant. From positive to the most negative point now, after literally 3-4 hours of washing my hair, my head was beginning to get greasy again. I did stick with it and used it thinking that my scalp would get used to it but it just didn’t. I’ll be sticking to my cheaper brands for a while now!
