Who are Paul Mitchell?
==================
The serum is designed by Paul Mitchell, a well known Hairdresser whose range of hair care products was developed in 1979.

This is one of those products that once you buy, you wonder what you ever did without it. Especially for me - all my life I have had thick, hard to style hair. Straighteners worked - for a time. After a few hours of straightening my hair, it would again resemble a scratty mop.
The last time I had my hair cut, in October, the hairdresser, after commenting that 'Your hair is really thick, how do you cope!?', presented me with a bottle of Paul Mitchell Super Skinny serum. She pumped some onto her hand and ran it through my wet hair. She advised that this serum was fantastic, and really did make your hair 'skinnier'. Not convinced, I told her that I had possibly tried every serum on the hair market and not one of them had worked, so I was pretty doubtful this one would.
However, the outcome was not so much amazing, as pleasing. After she briefly dried my hair and then ran the straighteners through it, my hair certainly did look sleek and thinner. Of course, now she knew I was interested, she told me that they stock said product for £12.50. I thought this a bit steep, and didn't have the extra money on me anyway. I told her I would buy it from Boots, she said it wasn't available in any of the High Street stores. Eager to get away and flick my newly skinny hair in the mirror at home, I told her I would come back when I had the money.
As a fan of ordering online, and believing that if you look hard enough, you can always find something cheaper, I returned home and searched for the product on the internet. Using google, I simply typed in the name of the product. The first result returned was Lookfantastic.com. They stocked the product at £9.78 - £2.72 cheaper than in the Hairdressers. I quickly ordered the product and it was delivered within a day or two. ============ Who are Paul Mitchell? ================== The serum is designed by Paul Mitchell, a well known Hairdresser whose range of hair care products was developed in 1979.
Their first year developing hair care products was a tough one, due to limited supplies of money. For this reason, all packaging for their hair care products was simply black and white as they could not afford ink. However, this became their trademark and to this day, many of their products still come in the popular black and white packaging.
Their products are well respected by hairdressers and consumers alike. ================== What is the Super Skinny Serum? ======================== The serum was developed with unruly hair in mind. Its main use is to smooth and condition hair but is suitable for all hair types.
The greasy serum 'contains a unique smoothing complex which penetrates into your hair shaft where it helps displace water and constrict the hair shaft'. This essentially means it helps to keep the moisture locked into your hair.
The serum also serves to reduce drying time - 'skinnier hair means a tighter hair shaft which results in a shorter drying time'.
The serum contains conditioners which help not only smooth and lock moisture into the hair, but also has 'Thermal Protectants' which helps defend your hair against heat damage from hair dryers and straighteners.
===== The Packaging =========== The serum is packaged in a distinctive see through 150ml bottle, with a green pump action head. The trademark Black 'Paul Mitchell' writing runs along the side of the bottle. A small description as to what the serum does is at the bottom of the bottle and instructions on use, in English, French and German, along with ingredients is on the back of the bottle. There are a number of varied ingredients, including Glycerine, Perfume, Benzyl Alcohol and Citronellol. It is always best to check the ingredients before buying any product, should you be allergic to any of them.
The bottle does not come with a lid, preferring an easy to use pump action head.
======= Using the Serum =============This serum is designed to be used on damp hair. I usually wash may hair, let it dry naturally for around ten minutes, towel dry it and then use the serum. This is to ensure that there is minimum water left on the hair, which could possibly hinder the work of the serum.
It is suggested, on the back of the bottle, that just 1 pump should be used. However, due to the thickness of my hair, I use between 3 and 5 pumps, depending on what condition my hair is in, i.e. dry.
The serum should be pumped into your hand and then rubbed between both hands. It is recommended that it should be distributed to your hair starting at the ends and then working towards the scalp. However, the first time I did this, I could not get used to working from the bottom, upwards, as this is not the way I had ever applied serums before. Instead, I apply from the top down, making sure that I attend to all of my hair.
Lastly, I run a comb through my hair a few times to ensure that any unnecessary excess has been removed and that the serum has been distributed evenly.
This serum is quite greasy and so as soon as I have applied to my hair, I run my hands under warm water and wash with soap. The serum doesn't wash off easily with just water.
Once the serum has been applied, I then blow dry my hair. Before using the serum, it took me around 10 minutes to just dry my hair. Now, my drying time has been halved - it takes me around 5 minutes to dry.
When drying, I can feel the slightly sticky residue of the serum. This worried me at first as I thought my hair would appear greasy. However, it is quickly and easily absorbed by my hair.
Once I have blow dried my hair, I then run my straighteners through. When I had previously straightened my hair, it took me around 30 minutes - I had to go over the same place a number of times before it even showed a little bit of straightness.
Now, it takes me around 20 minutes to straighten all of my hair. Admittedly, I do now have a pair of GHD straighteners which immediately reduce the straightening time, but I did forget to use the serum one day and it took me longer, even with the GHD's.
There is no evidence of the serum left after I have straightened my hair, except the lovely smell. I am unsure as to what perfume is contained within the serum, but I get the impression of a light, pleasant berry smell. The smell lasts all day, and as the serum keeps my hair wonderfully straight, it has been known for me not have to wash my hair for three days, with it still looking shiny, straight and smelling lovely.
On average, I wash my hair at least 4 times a week and use the serum each time. As the serum was bought at the beginning of October, I would estimate that I have used it around 16 times, using on average 4 pumps each time. Considering this regular use, the serum has barely left the top of the bottle. I don't anticipate having to buy another bottle for a while!
This serum is just one product on a small range of Paul Mitchell 'Super Skinny Products' including Shampoo and Conditioner. Of course, they recommend that the serum is best used with their other products to give effective long lasting results. However, I use the serum with my regular shampoo and conditioner and could not ask for better results.
=== Conclusion ========= This is a great product that I will continue to buy and I highly recommend it. Despite regular blow drying and straightening, my hair is still in excellent condition. I feel that the serum has not only served its purpose of smoothing my hair but has also kept the moisture locked in. I purchased the serum from www.lookfantastic.com at a cost of £9.78. This works out at just £0.07p per ml. However, do have a good look around for prices, as they do differ. I don't recommend buying it from hairdressers as they seem to mark their prices up.
Now I just need some Super Skinny for my body!

Advantages: Leaves hair shiny, natural looking, less frizz Disadvantages: None
This hair serum promises to make your hair silky and smooth and it works by coating your hair. This would be good for anyone who suffers from split ends or frizz as it smooths the cuticle of the hair, making these problems less noticeable. I have wavy hair that is not chemically treated in anyway but it needs washing every day and since I don't have the time to blow dry, I needed something to make it dry by itself without any frizz. My boyfriend ... ...hairdressers when I was complaining that I wanted my hair to be smoother, since then I've become an addict to the range! After trying the shampoo (with alot of success I have to say!), I tried the serum. This cost me £11.85 from the hairdressers but it can be bought for less on e-bay (however, be careful as there are some sellers who are selling fake bottles of the stuff). The serum itself is a clear, lovely smelling, slightly oily formula and you ...

Advantages: Straight, shiny, sleek, nourished hair that is heat protected AND resists humidity Disadvantages: Gunky feeling on hands
I have been using this product for about 18 months now and thought seeing as I always rely on reviews to assist me in purchases, I should write one!! I had tried various serums, including Frizz Ease, Charles Worthington etc and just found them to make my hair greasy and dull, with no heat protection offered.
My hair salon put this on my hair before blow drying and again before straightening and I was amazed!! I bought a bottle and at £13 thought ... ...that even on my incredibly thick hair it would last a whole year and it did! This product is one of those miracle ones that I definitely couldn't be without, my desert island essential!! I use two pumps on towel dry hair before blow drying, sometimes another before straightening and another to finish. Start on the ends as they are the most dry parts of your hair and work upwards. The difference this makes as a styling aid, compared to just shampoo ...
