At one of my trips at the saloon, I was recommended some products from Paul Mitchell for my daughter, who has a frizzy and curly hair which seems to have gone in a very bad shape over the last year. I have to admit that up until this point I have never heard of this brand, so I have decided to give it a try and see if it will help getting my little daughter’s hair back in shape. Since I normally do not buy products I don’t know I have looked up on the internet to see what information I could find about Paul Mitchell products, even if it was a bit late by this point.
Who is Paul Mitchell?
Paul Mitchell was a hairdresser who, together with John Paul DeJoria, decided in 1980 to create a brand designed especially for hair care professionals. The company wasn't a big success in the beginning and they struggled not to go bankrupt for the first year. In fact, the now famous Black&White packaging of the brand is the result of the company not being able the afford color ink. They were the first to offer complete refunds if the saloon would not be able to sell their products and slowly they started to conquer the market. Sadly, Paul Mitchell died of pancreatic cancer in 1989, but the company continued to flourish under Paul DeJoria, growing into one of the largest in history, currently producing over 90 produces, with annual salon retail sales approaching $900 million.
Paul Mitchell Systems has a strong network, working with over 70,000 saloons in USA and Canada and being a lead presence in over 44 countries worldwide. John Paul Mitchell Systems have build a comprehensive educational network, including Paul Mitchell Schools and Associate Program with classes, seminars and mentorship designed to help cosmetologists, estheticians, and nail technicians reach their artistic, business, and personal goals, in beauty schools in multiple locations. On top of that, the company also sponsors a martial arts demonstration team known as Team Paul Mitchell
John Paul Mitchell Systems claims to be the most recognized professional manufacturer of salon products worldwide. Paul Mitchell products are not tested on animals and they have been the first hair company to publicly protest against animal testing. Further more, the company follows earth friendly policies and strategies, including using standard aerosol products, harvesting botanicals without harming the environment and using giant solar panels for solar energy on their awapuhi farm in Hawaii. There over 70 products under Paul Mitchell brand, as well as Modern Elixirs, Tea Tree and Paul Mitchell Professional Hair Color.
Tea Tree Collection (Tea Tree Special, Tea Tree Lemon and Tea Tree Lavender Mint) is a full collection of products for all hair and skin types, main ingredient being tea tree oil, an essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of Melaleuca Alternifolia, an Australian plant. It is often used in creams, ointments, lotions, soaps, and shampoos and it has been successful in treating Athlete’s Foot, Fungal Infection of the Toenails, Acne, and Dandruff. Caution thou, as one disputed study linked tea tree oil to the possibility of altering of hormone levels, thus people with hormone-sensitive cancers or pregnant or nursing women should avoid tea tree oil. Occasionally, people may have allergic reactions to tea tree oil, ranging from mild contact dermatitis to severe blisters and rashes.
Modern Elixirs is a unique line of products claims to maximize the hair’s vital force in achieving and maintaining its stability by conditioning the hair’s shaft while cosmetically repairing the surface, promoting the optimal balance of carbohydrates, lipids and minerals the hair needs. The range contains Bodify, Color Therapy, Refine and Style.

Paul Mitchell Body Care
Paul Mitchell Body Products claim to rejuvenate and recharge your body, perking up your senses and leaving your skin feeling smooth and soft. Popular names in this series are Tea Tree Shave Gel, Tea Tree Body Bar, Tea Tree Liquid Hand Soap and Tea Tree Oil.
I personally bought Shampoo Tree and Lite Detangler and as you can see from my previous reviews on them, I have not been impressed with it one bit! While I was searching information on Paul Mitchell I have come across a lot of reviews praising the products, so I guess that goes on saying that different people have different experiences. There may also be other products (they produce over 90 after all) that are amazing, unfortunately thou, after my unfortunate start with those two I will not attempt to try on other products.
Having said that, I quite like the fact that they are environmental friendly and do not test their products on animals. From everything I read it seems this is the type of company this world needs at this stage, so I suggest you give it a try anyway and decide for yourself.
Advantages: Products smell absolutely divine and are great for your hair Disadvantages: Can be expensive so save for a treat
...and seem to like is Paul Mitchell.
Paul Mitchell was set up 26 years ago by two friends who had a vision of founding a company by hairdressers for hairdressers one that would provide tools of success for hair care professionals, their salons, and the entire beauty industry. It all began in 1980, when John Paul DeJoria and Paul Mitchell first decided to launch their professional hair care system around a revolutionary new styling method - hair sculpting, ... ...eventually become known as John Paul Mitchell Systems®. The two partners began marketing their products under the brand name Paul Mitchell®, as Mr. Mitchell was the hairdresser of the two and other hairdressers would respect a hairdresser's name. The packaging the products are so well reknowned for actually came about because resources were so limited that the Paul Mitchell® brand's now-famous black and white packaging was a result of not being able ...

...reassuring extra is that 'John Paul Mitchell Systems does not conduct or endorse animal testing.' A quick visit to their website http://www.paulmitchell.com will confirm that they care about the environment - where possible they use recycled unbleached paper, soy-based ink and 'Bio-Pack' containers for shipping (made from unbleached, recycled fibres). It smells amazing and the smell lingers for hours. About 4 hours after washing my hair with this product, I leant forward causing my hair to fall on my face. As I inhaled the beautiful aroma of Awapuhi floated up my nostrils. Mmm! This product smells fresh, delicate and most of all natural. PERFORMANCE Simply use a small blob of this shampoo and rub into your hair and scalp. It lathers easily and ...

Advantages: Does what it claims to Disadvantages: Expensive
...volumizing spray. It is by Paul Mitchell and the blurb on the bottle claims that it is “an easy to use spray that is formulated to add volume galore, body and shine.” Well, I can testify to all of this, as it certainly is easy to use, in fact couldn’t be easier, it has definitely done something to my hair regarding volume and body, and my hair still shines, although I cannot say hand on heart that the spray produced the shine rather ... ...called Panthenol which is supposed to help increase the hair’s diameter (sounds painful!) and pliability (ouch!), which springs in to action whenever you use it on damp hair and then blow dry (I have not just left my hair to dry naturally, so I don’t know how effective it would be without the aid of a hair dryer).
It is really easy to use –
1) wash your hair and towel dry it (so it is clean and damp)
2) spray on the volumizing ...

Advantages: vast improvement in hair condition Disadvantages: none
I love my hairdresser John. I first went to him about 8 years ago. My hair was in terrible condition through perming, highlighting, etc. My hair was greasy at the roots and very dry at the ends which was also split. He recommended that I use Moisture Mist every time I washed my hair. I was a bit dubious because this Moisture Mist stuff was mainly water!! But after every shampoo - before blow drying my hair I would spray this over my hair. (It is ... ...stain delicate items) After about 3 weeks the difference was amazing. My hair shone like never before. I didnt need to use conditioner any more which in turn reduced how greasy my hair was. It is important to use a good shampoo in conjunction with Moisture Mist or the benefits can be lost. But used regularly on dry hair you will notice a difference. It has a fresh smell that doesn't overpower, and once on the hair the frangrance enhances that just ...

Advantages: leaves hair super sleek....lasts forever Disadvantages: price and feels greasy on hands
said I'll see how I get on with the products i normally use.
However when at the end of the evening out my hair was still sleek and straight instead of my usual frizzy mess (caused my moisture in air) I was very impressed and went back to salon a couple days later and purchased a bottle.
Now when you consider I have had this bottle for almost a year and it is still half full, and i use this product almost every day, then this is really excellent value for money. You do only need one pump for a full head of hair. My hair is thick and well below shoulder length now and this still manages to keep it under control!
The bottle itself is a clear see through plastic bottle with a green pump and the words PAULMITCHELL emblazoned vertically up the front. It is called Super Skinny Serum and it really is Super!
It claims to ...
Advantages: Extremely effective, really does do what it says on the tin! Disadvantages: Slightly greasy when applying
This is one of those products that once you buy, you wonder what you ever did without it. Especially for me - all my life I have had thick, hard to style hair. Straighteners worked - for a time. After a few hours of straightening my hair, it would again resemble a scratty mop.
The last time I had my hair cut, in October, the hairdresser, after commenting that 'Your hair is really thick, how do you cope!?', presented me with a bottle of PaulMitchell Super Skinny serum. She pumped some onto her hand and ran it through my wet hair. She advised that this serum was fantastic, and really did make your hair 'skinnier'. Not convinced, I told her that I had possibly tried every serum on the hair market and not one of them had worked, so I was pretty doubtful this one would.
However, the outcome was not so much amazing, as pleasing ...
Advantages: works great smells beautiful Disadvantages: none
I use this product everytime i've washed my hair, i apply it to my towel dried hair, i'm always amazed to ho long the bottle lasts even with my long hair , i only need 2 small pumps of serum, and this product smells beautiful, whenever i use it my boyfriend cant stop sniffing my hair. i dry my hair straight with the hairdryer and it makes such a difference in comparision to when i dont use and serum product .
my hair is useually thick , so it makes me feel great when the end result is sleek "skinny" hair , i love it so much. its definetly Super and brilliantly skinny
i recommend popping into your local hairdresser who stock paulmitchell and purchase some super skinny serum , and you can feel the difference and say bye bye to thick hair.
the price reasonable too for the quality of this product ...
