At one of my trips at the saloon, I was recommended some products from Paul Mitchell for my daughter, who has a frizzy and curly hair which seems to have gone in a very bad shape over the last year.
I have to admit that up until this point I have never heard of this brand, so I have decided to give it a try and see if it will help getting my little daughter’s hair back in shape. Since I normally do not buy products I don’t know I have looked up on the internet to see what information I could find about Paul Mitchell products, even if it was a bit late by this point.

Who is Paul Mitchell?

Paul Mitchell was a hairdresser who, together with John Paul DeJoria, decided in 1980 to create a brand designed especially for hair care professionals. The company wasn't a big success in the beginning and they struggled not to go bankrupt for the first year. In fact, the now famous Black&White packaging of the brand is the result of the company not being able the afford color ink. They were the first to offer complete refunds if the saloon would not be able to sell their products and slowly they started to conquer the market.
Sadly, Paul Mitchell died of pancreatic cancer in 1989, but the company continued to flourish under Paul DeJoria, growing into one of the largest in history, currently producing over 90 produces, with annual salon retail sales approaching $900 million.

Paul Mitchell Systems has a strong network, working with over 70,000 saloons in USA and Canada and being a lead presence in over 44 countries worldwide.
John Paul Mitchell Systems have build a comprehensive educational network, including Paul Mitchell Schools and Associate Program with classes, seminars and mentorship designed to help cosmetologists, estheticians, and nail technicians reach their artistic, business, and personal goals, in beauty schools in multiple locations. On top of that, the company also sponsors a martial arts demonstration team known as Team Paul Mitchell

John Paul Mitchell Systems claims to be the most recognized professional manufacturer of salon products worldwide. Paul Mitchell products are not tested on animals and they have been the first hair company to publicly protest against animal testing.
Further more, the company follows earth friendly policies and strategies, including using standard aerosol products, harvesting botanicals without harming the environment and using giant solar panels for solar energy on their awapuhi farm in Hawaii.
There over 70 products under Paul Mitchell brand, as well as Modern Elixirs, Tea Tree and Paul Mitchell Professional Hair Color.

Tea Tree Collection (Tea Tree Special, Tea Tree Lemon and Tea Tree Lavender Mint) is a full collection of products for all hair and skin types, main ingredient being tea tree oil, an essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of Melaleuca Alternifolia, an Australian plant. It is often used in creams, ointments, lotions, soaps, and shampoos and it has been successful in treating Athlete’s Foot, Fungal Infection of the Toenails, Acne, and Dandruff.
Caution thou, as one disputed study linked tea tree oil to the possibility of altering of hormone levels, thus people with hormone-sensitive cancers or pregnant or nursing women should avoid tea tree oil.
Occasionally, people may have allergic reactions to tea tree oil, ranging from mild contact dermatitis to severe blisters and rashes.

Modern Elixirs is a unique line of products claims to maximize the hair’s vital force in achieving and maintaining its stability by conditioning the hair’s shaft while cosmetically repairing the surface, promoting the optimal balance of carbohydrates, lipids and minerals the hair needs. The range contains Bodify, Color Therapy, Refine and Style.

Paul Mitchell Shampoos

There is a shampoo available for each type of hair, such as Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo, Paul Mitchell Shampoo One, Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo, Paul Mitchell Instant Moisture Shampoo and many more.

Paul Mitchell Conditioners

The conditioners are a fine combination of top technology with the best botanicals, designed to revitalize, moisturize, detangle, strengthen and protect all types of hair. Main conditioners under Paul Mitchell brand are The Conditioner, Tea Tree Conditioner and The Detangler.

Paul Mitchell Styling Aids

Whatever type of hair you have, the Paul Mitchell Styling products provides style without limits, whether you prefer lotions, gel, foam, cream or spray to deliver a strengthen, smooth and full of body hair.

Paul Mitchell Body Care

Paul Mitchell Body Products claim to rejuvenate and recharge your body, perking up your senses and leaving your skin feeling smooth and soft. Popular names in this series are Tea Tree Shave Gel, Tea Tree Body Bar, Tea Tree Liquid Hand Soap and Tea Tree Oil.

I personally bought Shampoo Tree and Lite Detangler and as you can see from my previous reviews on them, I have not been impressed with it one bit! While I was searching information on Paul Mitchell I have come across a lot of reviews praising the products, so I guess that goes on saying that different people have different experiences. There may also be other products (they produce over 90 after all) that are amazing, unfortunately thou, after my unfortunate start with those two I will not attempt to try on other products.

Having said that, I quite like the fact that they are environmental friendly and do not test their products on animals. From everything I read it seems this is the type of company this world needs at this stage, so I suggest you give it a try anyway and decide for yourself.
