Paul Smith London was a valentines day present and was chosen by my partner mainly due to its deep red bottle and packaging which matched the roses he gave me too. This wasnt as ridiculously expensive a present as it should have been due to him working out of the country and not returning to me until the week after valentines, when flower prices had dropped from their usual valentines day madness.
Paul Smith is an English designer who launched his first fragrance in 2000 and explains he draws his inspiration from aromatherapy oils and energising lotions. He has a range of every day relaxed fragrances suitable for casual wear
The Paul Smith London fragrance was launched in 2005 and is a more opulent, sophisticated fragrance than his others, consequently this fragrance is suitable not only for casual day wear but can be worn for more formal day and evening wear .
Appearance : ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ The bottle is a curved ,deep ruby red, glass apothecary style which actually looks like the screw half of a deep red light bulb and this effect is enhanced by the raised, circular grooves around the top of the neck which correspond to the screw fitting of an authentic light bulb. The cap is a matching glass deep red plunger style . The bottle is packed in a deep red cylindrical box and the bottle nestles in a shaped base.
The perfume: ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ Paul Smith London is a very feminine, floral perfume and is quite light although when applied initially it is quite a heady fragrance. As it settles down it the floral notes that emerge are noticeably of jasmine and lilac. These sweet main notes are well balanced by deeper patchouli and amber which give the perfume its opulence and also provide the initial headiness.
It is a rich full-bodied aroma that is deep and luxurious without being overbearing or oppressive. Its effect is quite subtle and it gently permeates the area around the wearer in a delicate cloud. It is the kind of perfume, that when caught by a breeze is noticed by others, and because it is delicate you do notice people looking around to locate it and inhaling quite deeply.
It is quite a modern perfume rather than classical and the overall impression is a mossy, oriental floral. it is a soft perfume with no real sharp notes but isnt sickly sweet due to the deep notes which give it balance.
This perfume is perfect for day wear when you have somewhere to go that is important and fairly formal such as an interview as it is striking without being flashy or too bold. Its also a good perfume for a dreary grey day as it is a bit spicy and warm and gives a cheerful impression.
There is nothing else in the range at present other than the perfume but it is a definite enough fragrance that is able to overcome the aromas of other personal products such as soap or shower gel. I have actually found that the Palmolive sensual shower gel and bubble bath compliment this perfume very well. It has very good staying power and will last a few hours without reapplication
This voluptuous, opulent soft fragrance does make an extremely good gift. It is the kind of fragrance that would appeal to a wide range of women and although not really a girly perfume it could be worn by younger and older women just as effectively.
As with all perfumes: get a good squirt from a tester to try for yourself prior to purchase
This perfume always makes me think of the stones song Ruby Tuesday... "Who could hang a name on you" "When you change with every new day" "Still I'm gonna miss you"
