As you would expect from Paul Smith who is famous for revisiting the classic and redefining it by adding modern contrast to it, the bottle of this very airy and delicate fragrance is quite heavy, with a thick bottom that makes up about ¼ of its entire height.
The shape of the bottle is also unusual, it widens to the middle then suddenly comes to a short, stumpy neck that is slightly elongated with the simple, cylindrical metal cap. The box features the rose developed by Paul Smith bearing his name and first presented in 2006 on the Chelsea Flower Show.
The fragrance
A unique technique is used to capture the smell of the Paul Smith Rose without crushing or harvesting the petals of the flower. The living flower is placed in a glass bell where an apparatus inhales the scent which is then recreated in laboratory.
When I sprayed the perfume on my arm, it smelled more than just rose. It smelled like the whole flower with its leaves and woody stem; a scent that reminded me of spring mornings when the earth exhales its dewy freshness and the smell of wet grass hangs in the air.
Being an eau de parfum this first phase of 'very rose' is tenacious can last up to an hour. After that the middle notes appear which are composed of balanced fresh floral scents of rose oil and magnolia. I liked this phase better, it was however a lot more faded than the top notes of rose.
The woody, sweet, light, subtle and powdery base gives it a lovely finish that lingers on the skin for up to 8 hours and even after a shower.
Conclusion
While being very light and fresh, I found the top notes of this very rose, transparent, slightly woody-bitter fragrance a bit harsh and over-powering at first. It does possess the right combination of being a delightfully sweet fresh floral scent though you will need to spray a lot first to get to the delicate notes of white magnolia and musk which is only detectable very close to the skin.

...taken from is one that Paul Smiths's wife had cultivated and named after him for a birthday present. The scent is captured from the living flower in a glass bell instead of crushing the poor flowers like most do.
So it's kind to the roses, it looks good and it makes me smell gorgeous. Also makes a very easy present which is guaranteed to please!
The price is pretty reasonable - Boots sell it for £34 for a 50ml bottle. This really isn't bad for ...
