I own a Pearl Export ELX Standard size kit and what can I say except WOW !!! I have had various kits, ok lets look back at what I had before the Pearl ELX. I had, a Simmons Electronic kit, great for that heavy 80's disco vibe. A Yamaha DTX V.2, verry cool for chruch and so on, but no real drummer plays on electronic kits. I then bought a Gretsch Catalina Birch, fusion, great kit, but it allways lacked something. I then bought a Sonor Force 2003, ... ...an add of a second Pearl ELX, for R3000, roughly about a 187 pounds and what a great great kit. I put on some Evans EC2 heads and I got the best sound I have ever had from any of my own kits. Keep in mind I have been drumming for 15 yrs and I am session drummer, however the Pearl ELX Export was the best, cheapest investment I have ever made.

I then bought a Sonor Force 2003, not bad at all, but the kick, the 16" floor and the 13" tom never quite made me jump for joy. Then I owned a Tama Superstar Custom, fusion. Verry nice kit, but I reckon if I had an extra 16" tom, the kit would have been what I wanted. Finally I saw an add of a second Pearl ELX, for R3000, roughly about a 187 pounds and what a great great kit. I put on some Evans EC2 heads and I got the best sound I have ever had from any of my own kits. Keep in mind I have been drumming for 15 yrs and I am session drummer, however the Pearl ELX Export was the best, cheapest investment I have ever made.
I record with my Pearl and I go on stage with my Pearl. All my fellow drummer have serious Yamaha Maple customs and Tama Starclassics and so on, but I still prefer my kit. It has all the warmth and tone I need for my style of drumming and the finish, scarlett fade with black rims, wow, it just loos awesome. I have a huge set of Sabian HHX studio and explode cymbals which compliments the kit to its max.
so yeah, I know all drummers have their own specific taste in kits, but I am more than happy with my intermediate drum kit, my PEARL EXL EXPORT SERIES !!!!!
Advantages: Sound, Look. Disadvantages: Strong competitors in the same market.
...the looks to match the Pearl Export ELX. Its closest rival, the TAMA Rockstar, can just about match the finish but you wont get the same kind of quality until you upgrade to the Rockstar Custom range.
A large difference in the Rockstar and Export ELX is seen when comparing the differences between fusion and rock setups. With the Rockstar, the difference in bass is clear, but the toms do not vary much in their tone. With the Export ELX, you can clearly ... ...two setups, on all aspects of the kit.
The Export ELX also features Pearl's ISS tom mouting technology, which rivals TAMA's "Star-cast" system, allowing the toms to resonate to their fullest.
The toms give off a rich sound, which can be perfected with the use of the right heads and/or O-rings. The bass is thick and rich, while easy to manipulate using dampening techniques.
The kit is easy and quick to setup and take apart and is farily resiliant ...
