I've been using a Pearl Free Floater, 14" X 3.5" steel shell picolo for a few years now without any problem. The drum gives an amazing crack when cracked up high, yet has enough volume and sustain to fill an average sized venue. Tuning is without any hassles, and the features of having a tension adjustment screw on bothe ends of the snare strainer allow for a well-tight snare, giving a great sound. The ability to change the actual shell itself is also handy, but a feature I've yet to use. As with all my Pearl drums and hardware (P201 pedal is a dream !) there really is little to fault it. Hghly recommended
