"A great Beach Resort"

The Lanai is a hotel located on the island of Langkawi in Malaysia. I stayed three nights in this hotel.

The location

The Lanai is located on the beach of the island of Langkawi in Malaysia. Situated in a kind of street where more resorts are located. In about 10 minutes walk you can find different kinds of restaurants and if you walk a bit further you end up in a village with many shops. In this village you can take a visit to the Underwater World aquarium. In the street of the village are many taxis that can bring you everywhere in Langkawi.

The Lanai Langkawi Hotel is a beach resort on the island of Langkawi. There are over one hundred rooms available, including some chalets. There are several restaurants. There is also a bar by the beach. At the beach you can also find someone who can give you a massage or you can choose to do some water sports like jet skiing or parasailing. And if you'd rather not swim in the sea, you can also opt for the pool. There is also a hotel shop and you can book several excursions with a the travel agent within the hotel. You can also play a game of pool or volleyball. In the hotel has no lift, which is a bit awkward, since there are three floors. Especially if you have a heavy suitcase.

The reception

The reception is very centrally located. You can leave your key when you go somewhere for the day. You can also get information. The people at reception are very friendly and I've had no problems. They always greeted me friendly when you walked in the hotel. At the reception are also pool tables and you sit on a couch or chair. There is a great TV that’s always on.

There are different types of rooms in the hotel, such as chalets and double rooms. I myself stayed in a double room on the third floor. The room looked fine, with a large double bed and a balcony. There was an air conditioning and a refrigerator. There was also a television. There was a phone that you can use to place an order or call room service. Also you can ask the reception to wake you up call at a certain time. The bathroom looks neat. You get some stuff like shampoo, soap and a shower cap. There are towels. The only negatives I can think of was that the hot water run out quickly and after a few minutes it turned cold.

The breakfast room is located on the first floor. With a special ticket that you get when you check in you can get a buffet breakfast. The buffet is from 7:30 to 10:30. The buffet was very extensive, with various Western and Asian dishes. For example you could choose from fried rice, noodles, onion soup, pancakes or just simply a jam sandwich. The bread can be toasted. People who would like a fried egg could request that at the cook who makes it exactly what you ordered. Fried egg, or scrambled eggs with onions and peppers. There is also fried bacon for you when you feel like it. In terms of drinks there was coffee, tea and you have the choice between two different kinds of juice. You can also eat fruit and vegetables also varies every day.
Bar / restaurant at the beach

At the beach there is a bar and restaurant. You can go here to eat or drink and they bring it to you even when you are sitting on the beach. The choice of drinks is huge. You can take soft drinks, coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages or fresh fruit juices. I am among others iced tea, juice and orange juice. I also tried some cocktails, the Tequila Sunrise and the Pina Colada, both excellent in taste. You can also eat lots of food and the choice is extensive. You can either have Malay, Chinese and Western dishes. I've had two meals. Once the Salmon steak with rice, which is very good to eat. I also had the spaghetti bolognaise. That was nice but a bit bland.

At the beach you have different facilities. You can get a massage while listening to the sounds of the sea. You can also play volleyball and water sports like parasailing or rent a jet ski.

The pool of the Hotel Lanai is quite large and has a sort of round shape. A large part has a kind of roof above it, so you are well protected against the sun. There is also a smaller round pool, especially for children. The large pool has a kind of bridge where you can swim under it when you swim underwater. It is also possible to borrow a ball at the reception. At the pool is also a sort of beach where you can get a free towel to use. All you have to do is write your name and room number and a signature if you take the towel. Around the pool are relaxing loungers.

A standard room is 268 Ringgit per night. This is the equivalent of 70 pounds. Prices may vary depending on the season. The price is just fine since it’s a lovely resort. Prices at the restaurant and bar are reasonable. The meals are similar to meals at different places in Malaysia and are between 10 and 30 Ringgit. Drinking is more expensive than in other places. For an iced tea I paid around 8 Ringgit, something that in many places about 3 to 5 Ringgit. The cocktails are again very reasonable with an average of 15 Ringgit.

The Lanai is truly a great resort. You can completely relax. The rooms are fine with only the hot shower being a problem. The rooms were perfectly clean room. The service is fine. The resort itself looks good, with a nice pool and the sea within walking distance. I spend almost every afternoon in the pool or at the sea. The breakfast was great. The fact that the egg is cooked for you is really great. The food at the bar was fine, though I found the pasta a bit bland.

All in all I am very happy with the resort. The hotel has a few minor downsides, like the lack of an elevator. Because of these small problems I give the resort 4 stars and not five. Especially the shower was being very annoying. After a busy day you just want a long hot shower. But I'm definitely very happy with the time I've stayed at this hotel.
