In this age of high technology automatic electronic equipment it pays to take a step back to the simple things such as the Pentax K1000camera. The fully manual 35mm SLR obviously requires complete user control but for the photographer who doesn’t want to be limited by a camera’s ability, this is the one for you.
The only power needed is for the exposure meter from a small battery which is activated when the lens cap is removed. The built-in through-the-lens meter measures the average brightness of the ground glass at full aperture and then couples to the aperture, shutter and film speed settings. The shutter mechanism is completely manual meaning that the camera can still be used even when the battery is exhausted, with a little guess work for the exposure. The focal plane shutter extends from speeds B, 1 second to 1/1000 of a second. The B shutter is perfect for night photography shots providing a steady hand is in use or a cable release.
The K1000 has an X terminal to the left of the lens fitting to attach a flash for flash synchronisation if and when it is needed. The X synchronisation is at 1/60 of a second. Other features include infra-red photography and multiple exposures. The lenses have an infra-red index indicated by an orange line on the depth of field guide. Multiple exposures can be taken by forcing the film to stay in place and cocking the shutter ready to expose again.
All in all a great piece of kit for the photographer requiring unlimited control in exposure, focusing and speed. Perfect picture taking ensues.

good review... im doing photography at college and this is the first camera i used... i got a newer camera for christmas but i just can't let go of the pentax k1000, its so simple to use.
