Pentax has recently announced a new firware update for it's K20D DSLR. This latest update- version 1.01- effectively addresses the problem whereby 'hot' pixels frequently appeared when the products two second self-timer function was used. Advantages: Excellent image quality, high resolution, great ergonomics, superb high ISO performance, Weathersealed. Disadvantages: Less than average FPS, and AF speeds, Heavy.
I purchased the pentax K20D as my second digital SLR camera. So far, it has performed to the highest standard, and for my purposes has outclassed other cameras that I have tried (Canon 40D, Nikon D80). Its high resolution sensor of 14.6mp provides excellent image quality, and great low light, high ISO performance.

Included in the wide array of features, the whole body is weathersealed, meaning no dust or rain will infiltrate the outer body, and it has in-body Image Stabilization - an excellent feature which reduces camera shake by upto 3 stops of light.
It is excellent value, and backed up by a large array of lenses, it is perfect for a photography enthusiast. Until the end of August, I believe Pentax are offering £100 cashback on all purchases with a lens - this just improves the value even more.
Advantages: A true SLR Disadvantages: Will not fit in your pocket
...you have to be less frightened of using this camera in rainy, damp or dusty conditions. The built in anti-shake mechanism works very well and means you can use any of the older Pentax lenses still producing sharper images at lower shutter speeds. Overall a truly great camera. ...

It is true that the competition will come not only from Canon with its cheaper Rebel Xsi, Sony?s Sony Alpha DSLR-A700 (12.2 mega pixel), PentaxK20D (14.6 mega pixel) but mainly from its own 40D (10 mega pixel) which must be a great source of pride for Nikon. The company has made out a niche of coming out with super quality cameras and has justified the faith of millions with the Nikon D90.
At 132 x 103 x 77 mm (5.2 x 4.1 x 3.0 in) weighing 585 g (1.3 lb) without battery and: 668 g (1.5 lb) with battery the Kanon D90 is definitely on the bulkier side compared to others in its price range but it more sturdy and substantial for that matter. Some of its features are similar to the D80 like the size, uses the same battery and has similar vertical grip.

you would be likely to break something but with the GX-20 those fears are well and truly gone, this thing feels unbreakable in your hands and really gives you the confidence to just use it.
I have heard people say that this camera is basically a Pentaxk20d with a different body, I dismiss that as nonsense straight off. Having used the afore mentioned Pentax I find the differences between the two enough to be able to say that the people making this comparison have little or no idea what they are talking about. The Samsung GX-20 out-performs the Pentax at every stage and has included features that the Pentax does not have.
What I have to go on to say is that as with any DSLR camera if you do not have a wide selection of lenses then you will limit the camera and what it can do, as a professional I have more than 30 lenses and use them ...

Advantages: light, ease of use, great in-camera editing, cheap, batteries are buyable everywhere, Disadvantages: poor low light performance, expensive to run, no room for growth,
and I've paid less than £15 for them.
"Cons of the camera"
* The sensor cleaner was a little disconcerting when it rumbled and generally would result in me screaming as the sensor got dirtier and dirtier seeming and then suddenly after a set of batteries had been used I'd have it clean again.
* Purple fringing does seem to be terrible with this, I've spent endless hours fixing pictures and my new camera doesn't suffer as badly.
* Poor performance in low light.
* Intergrated flash set very low and can leave pictures looking very dark at the bottom.
* Battery costs can add up so definately get rechargeables.
* Your race for pixels so far stops at 14mp with the K20d and Pentax aren't looking likely to be doing any higher for a while yet.
In my opinion this is still a fantastic camera for someone who is only wanting a basic SLR and not ...
