First off, I think its a great upgrade, and I'm very glad I did. The details: The biggest improvement - AWB!!! The auto white balance has got to the be the best of any Pentax DSLR to date.
Auto focus - Spot on, and faster than previously. Dynamic range - Improved, and will always be a sore spot with any digital. The HDR function may please some who take issue with this. Low light / High ISO - Well, to quite honest, I shoot RAW, but have heard that JPG can be an issue. Easy fix, go into menu and set noise reduction to high. You'll only have to do it once, then leave it alone and go enjoy your camera. All the other stuff is as you would expect in any Am/Pro level camera.
Menu's are a little different than previous Pentax, but not so much as to be totally foreign. Just new stuff and slightly new layout to accommodate all the new features. Like I said at the start, if you are looking for a new Pentax, this is the one to get!
I bought the K-7 to shoot pics for a golf course website (yes, they were desperate and I was very cheap.) I wanted to take continuous shots of my golfer model during a golf swing. I was able to capture 3 different club positions of his swing! I am very impressed with the speed.
The camera is well-built and I appreciate the water and dust resistance. It feels good in my hand, solid.
The best part about this camera is its ease of use! Within 3 minutes or less, a former point-n-shoot enthusiast could very well be snapping good pics with this camera.
There was only downside, and this would apply only to an advanced user, but there is no way to shut off the NR function. This can affect your ability to capture perfect long exposure shots at night!
Overall, a GREAT camera and one I highly recommend to all!
