I have had my Pentax Optio 330RS for about two years now and totally love it. I chose this camera after lots of research and I'll highlight those benefits in this review.
First of all Pentax have been making lenses and optics for decades - long before many of todays technology companies woke up and figured they could manufacture a quality lense. Ultimately this little Pentax has a superb output in terms of the pictures you print (A4 sized images print out in excellent detail and you won't see any pixelisation). When buying a camera make sure you use a well established optics brand like Pentax - the lense is the heart of your camera!
Size matters! It certainly does to me. The 330RS is approximately the size of a cigarette packet - it is big enough not to be fiddly but you don't mind taking it with you as it will fit in an average pocket quite comfortably.
The 330RS has a lithium battery that you remove from the camera and put into the charger (this is supplied in the box). This is fine because as long as you have a travel adapter you can take it on holiday and charge up in your hotel room (a full charge takes around an hour). The battery holds sufficient charge for a days use - I have used mine on safari and I was snapping everything the moved, so you are unlikely to have problems here.
The 330RS uses Compact Flash (CF) cards - these are the cheapest flash memory available and I use a 512MB card which is plenty. you can get CF cards that are 1GB (and I think more). There is no CF card supplied with the camera. You can connect to your computer using the usb cable (supplied) and the software (again this is supplied). If you dont have the software you can download the drivers from the pentax website.
The 330RS has all the functions you could expect - 30 second video clips (no sound though) and 3 x Optical zoom. Crucially the software menu is simply to use and you can find your way through the menus without having to consult the user guide.
In summary, the Pentax is a well built and designed camera that will last. It takes great pictures and is easy to use. It is nice and compact to carry around and if you want an easy point-and-click camera this is the one for you.
Advantages: Small size and good build quality Disadvantages: Screen can be difficult to see in sunlight
...supplied ACD see software was also good, it allows you to view and copy pictures with ease and the transfer speed is also impressive. If your are looking for a good quality compact digital camera I can recommend the Pentax Optio 330 (and its newer replacement the 330RS). ...

...results everytime.
I've got the Pentax Optio 330GS which has the ability to take movies. These are great and even produced good results when I took a movie in a dark pub recently.
I've got nothing bad to say about it. I was going to buy the Sony DSC-P51, but the Pentax is a lot better for a lot less money.
Here's some more info for you (added 28-02-03).
I bought the camera for £240 from www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk - it was the cheapest place ... ...now started to do some really cool things with it. By adjusting the exposure manually you can get some really good night shots. I've since bought NIMH batteries for it and they last ages in it. I also bought a 64Mb card and it will hold approx 130 'good' quality images at 1600 x 1200 resolution. The price of this camera is excellent for 3 megapixels. Personally I don't think the extra expense for 4 megapixels or higher is worth it. At the end of ...

Advantages: Compact, feels bombproof with steel body Disadvantages: takes a few seconds to start up
...I bought the PentaxOptio 430RS because the guy in the camera shop used the 330RS, and you can get the 430RS for the same price online.
Obviously the 430RS has more pixels (4 Meg), so you can expect a pretty good resolution.
The user menu is really easy to operate compared to some I have looked at.
I bought the digital camera because I wanted to have the choice of having only the good pictures instead of the usual 3 out of 36 type holiday photos that are any good.
The battery lasts quite well, but I have bought a spare battery (£27) as when people in a crowd want to see the pics the display eats the power. With the display on, but no people looking a the pics you can easily get 150 pics at 1024x768 high res
The display can be on, off, or have a histogram showing which is basically a light meter in the form of a graph...
