When the many usual credit card offers come through the post I usually rip it up and throw it straight away. But I heard how good people’s bank credit card was from friends, so when there leaflet come threw the door I had a read. I t sounded really good. No twisted catches or ridicules balance transfers fees. So I called and applied. For the Peoples Bank card PLATINUM
Peoples Bank is offering a 2.9% fix until the next nine months. Then it goes up to 11.99%. But what I have done is transferred everything over, then when the nine months is up. Change it back to my Egg card, which is about 9.9%.
I called to see if I would be accepted for a card, the person at the other end of the line took my details quite quickly and told me there and then I had been accepted. I had to wait only a week to get my details my card no., pin no etc) I called up Peoples Bank again and I asked them to transfer my balance and they did it there and then. I also received a letter that my transfer had gone threw.
Peoples bank also send you convenience cheques, you can use these to do your balances to, I have not used these as I think it was much quicker to call Peoples Bank inquiry line. So my cheques are sitting at the bottom of my drawer for emergency only (or maybe a rainy day) lol.
Peoples Bank card offers no annual fee, 24 hour free customer service, and they ask you would like to make your payment. The statements are easy to read, and it shows who your balance transfers were paid to.
The only thing that made my stomach do a summersault is when I read that if you miss a payment or a late payment your card goes up to a whopping 25.99%! If you do make a late payment or some how forget, they do send you a letter but like most banks now they will charge 25.00 for sending these letters. If you loose your card they will charge you about 4 or 5 pounds to replace.
You can use your card in different countries but People's Bank will charge you a foreign exchange fee of about 2% of the amount.
Advantages: Added safety. Travel insurance. Free hotel/car rental upgrades. Lounge access. Customer service. Disadvantages: Card not accepted everywhere. Telephone queue is sometimes unacceptable
...This is a review for the UK AmEx Platinum Charge Card - NOT the Platinum Credit Card. Some people seem to get the two mixed up and they are very different.
I used to hold an AmEx Gold Card but upgraded it to AmEx Platinum when I moved to the UK. I've now had the card for about 9 months and overall I'm very happy with it.
I chose it for the following reasons:
1) Extra security when shopping online or abroad. Paying with the AmEx card means I'm not taking a risk with my own money and I don't provide people with access to my private bank account.
2) Travel insurance. The Platinumcard really does offer great insurance when you pay for your tickets/holiday using the card. Delayed flights, lost bags etc. doesn't scare me as much anymore. Last time my flight was cancelled I had to stay in a hotel over night and the AmEx Platinum...
