Preface
Why am I reviewing this plain product? - I asked myself before I started. It sounds too plain and unteresting because everyone know about Pepsi. However, since I am a big fan of Pepsi's products, I have to write about it one day or another. So, the resolution for my 10th review is 'SIMPLE'.
History of Pepsi
As a pharmacist myself, I always be proud that Pepsi was found by a pharmacist in the US named Caleb Bradham in 1890s. At first, it is known as 'Brad's Drink'. He believed that his drink aided digestion much like the pepsin enzyme does, even though it was not used as an ingredient. That's why he officially named his drink 'Pepsi-Cola'.
The Pepsi-Cola Company was found in 1902 and the trademark of Pepsi-Cola was registered in 2003. PepsiCo, Inc. is founded by Donald M. Kendall, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pepsi-Cola and Herman W. Lay, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Frito-Lay, through the merger of the two companies in 1965.
In 1975, Pepsi introduced the Pepsi Challenge marketing campaign where PepsiCo set up a blind tasting between Pepsi-Cola and rival Coca-Cola. During these blind taste tests the majority of participants picked Pepsi as the better tasting of the two soft drinks. PepsiCo took great advantage of the campaign with television commercials reporting the test results to the public. I do really want to participate in this research, and I'll surely select Pepsi as the better taste ^_^. In the U.S., Pepsi's total market share was about 31.7 percent in 2004, while Coke's was about 43.1 percent.
The Pepsi Max
Pepsi Max debuted in the United Kingdom in April 1993 an alternative to regular Pepsi and Diet Pepsi. It is a low-calorie, sugar-free cola which use Aspartame and Acesulfame K as sweeteners. By the end of 1994, Pepsi Max was sold in approximately twenty countries. Pepsi Max also outsells regular Pepsi in Finland and some regions of Australia. Since 2007, Pepsi Max has been the most popular soft drink in Norway, outselling Coca-Cola.
Nowadays, Pepsi Max comes with BLACK theme.
Nutrition Information
Pepsi Max stated this information on its bottle.
Typical Value (Per 100ml) Energy 13kJ (0.3kcal) Protein 0.1g Carbohydrate Nil Of which sugars Nil Fat Nil Of which Saturates Nil Fibre Nil Sodium Trace Equivalent as Salt Trace
As same as other Soft Drink with Sweetener (s), Pepsi Max contains Phenylalanine. Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid, meaning that it is necessary for human health but is not produced by the body. As L-phenylalanine (LPA), it is one of the twenty common amino acids
L-phenylalanine is the natural form of phenylalanine. Along with UVA radiation, it has shown a return of pigment to white areas in patients with vitiligo.
D-phenylalanine is a synthesized form. It is thought to stimulate nerve pathways, therefore assisting in the reduction of chronic pain in some medical conditions. It is also thought to assist in walking and speech difficulties and depression found in Parkinson's disease.
DL-phenylalanine is a combined form of both D and L. It is claimed to have pain-killing and anti-depressant benefits.
However, it is not suitable for people with Phenylketonuria which is a genetic disorder regarding an individual's inability to properly metabolise phenylalanine. Persons with phenylketonuria (phenylketonurics) need to avoid phenylalanine intake, including aspartame, a well-known artificial sweetener.
My Position on Pepsi vs Coke
As I have stated that Pepsi is my favourite. I have found that it is sweeter than Coca-Cola and has less fizzy on my tongue. Some people cannot distinguish between Pepsi-Cola and Coca-Cola but I can feel it. So, my position on this is definitely Pepsi comes first. However, if the shop does not have Pepsi, Coke is fine for me if I am really thirsty.
My first time with Pepsi Max
I've tasted Pepsi Max once when I was in Thailand several years ago. Personally, I am not a fan of Soft Drink with Sweetener (s), including Diet Pepsi, since I do not like the bitter after taste. However, Pepsi Max gained my favour since the first time. It does not have a strong after taste and it tastes just like Pepsi. Since that day, I usually buy Pepsi Max instead of Pepsi whenever I think I already consume too much sugar that day.
The only problem I have found on Pepsi Max is it contains more gas than normal Pepsi. But again, it is fizzier on my tongue from Coke Zero, so it is fine by the way.
My favourite moment with Pepsi Max
'With Thai Food!!' that is my short answer. In Thailand, where the weather is always hot and humid, Pepsi is one of the most common ways to quench people's thirst. As a Thai myself, I have found that Pepsi goes very well with Hot and Spicy food, like they have born for each other. These are examples of Thai food I would love to have Pepsi or Pepsi Max during and after the meal:
Pad Kra Prow (Stir-fry meat with garlic, chilli, and holy basil) Som Tum + Larb + Namtok (Spicy papaya salad + isaan spicy minced pork - isaan spicy pork) Noodles and Pad Thai (In Thailand, noodles can be very spicy) Thai Red and Green Curry (including other kinds of Thai curries) Sua Rong Hai (Spicy Sizzling Beef) Seafood with hot and spicy dip Spicy stir-fry meat with oyster sauce
When having Pepsi or Pepsi Max during and after these food, I feel that the food taste better and the hot feeling leave me faster than having plain water (believe me, Thai people also feel hot when having hot and spicy food, but we just like it).
My advise on Pepsi Max (and Pepsi) consumers
I admit sometimes I drink Pepsi or Pepsi Max too much myself. Even though Pepsi Max can be helpful when you need to worry about your daily sugar intake, it contains a lot of artificial sweeteners which health professionals (like me) advise not to consume too much of it a day. At least a mouthful of plain water is also advised after Pepsi and Pepsi Max for healthier teeth and gums.
First of all, if you are healthy, you can drink them every day but not too much. It might be better to switch from Pepsi to Pepsi Max after you already consumed about half a litre of Pepsi that day.
If you have Diabetes Mellitus (DM) or have relatives that are suffering from it, please stay away from normal Pepsi and look for Pepsi Max. Since normal Pepsi can raise blood sugar very quickly and your DM can go worse or your GM genetic will be triggered faster than it should be.
However, those who are suffering from Phenylketonuria MUST not try Pepsi Max, including those foods that contain Phenylalanine.
My score on Pepsi Max
Colour: Same dark cola drink 9/10 Taste: Just like Pepsi 10/10 Value for money: usually same as Pepsi 10/10 Attractiveness: I like its new black theme 10/10 Healthiness: better than normal Pepsi, especially people with DM or prone to DM 8/10 Overall rating: Highly recommended 9.5/10
...when I found out that Pepsi made a low calorie drink aimed squarely at the male market. Yes I know that it is perfectly legal for us chaps to consume diet Pepsi or diet Cola but I always found it a little embarrassing asking for the aforementioned beverages. I always felt that somehow my masculinity was being called into question if I entered a shop and picked up the diet version of any drink, real men simply don’t consume diet drinks. That is until ... ...walk along the street swigging Pepsi Max people are bound to think “there’s a man who obviously lives life to the full and is not afraid to try something a little daring”. I can live with that sort of adulation from my fellow beings.
So, a go getting, fashionable drink needs a decent look, and the can is suitably trendy. Royal blue and black the predominant colours arranged haphazardly on the can with the Pepsi logo and MAX writ large in a red graffiti ...

...so it was that Diet Pepsi was unceremoniously replaced by PEPSI MAX. I read somewhere that the idea behind this drink was that men are apparently a little shy when asking for Diet Pepsi as they think it's not quite macho to order low-cal drinks. That'd be the same men who spend a fortune on moisturizers, hair products and other such grooming aids? A person with a more sardonic outlook than myself might think a big company like pepsico just bring ... ...would say, therefore, that Diet Pepsi and PEPSI MAX are essentially just the same drinks...y'know, sugar-free carbonated water with some sort of gloopy, flavour-enhanced, preservative-loaded, sugar-deprived, syrup added to it. Nothing could be further from the truth...my, but you're a cynical lot, aren't you? For a start, the 330ml can is a different colour - royal blue and black as opposed to silver, with MAX splashed boldly across it to save any ...

...cost me! First up is Pepsi Max, which, I have to say, is my favourite of all fizzy drinks. I usually drink about a litre of the stuff per day, and have done so since its release by Pepsi in 1993. Pepsi Max was initially released as a way of making diet drinks fashionable, the idea being that ‘living life to the Max’ is being as outrageous as possible in life, and that this drink helps promote that madness and popularity. The adverts containing ... ...exactly is it?---
Well, Pepsi Max is a cola that unlike Pepsi Diet, which, unsurprisingly is also made by Pepsi, manages to regain a lot of its cola-like sweet taste that you find in full-sugar colas, despite the fact that it contains absolutely no sugar and very few calories. It is, in effect, an alternative to Pepsi Diet, but with a much nicer taste, one that is much fruitier and juicier, and not as bland. It comes in 330ml cans (priced at around ...

It is quite obviously part of the "Pepsi family".Ahhh I just love family reunions!.It pushes all the right buttons as normal Pepsi but is good to the ears when you are told that it is sugar free.Yeh thats right sugar FREE!You could say that this product has so much whizz it is like pushing a hospital bed down a toboggan run.Yeh it's ... ...for a 200ml can of Pepsi max and can buy multipacks of 6,12 and 24 and also a one and two litre botle with the prices ranging from shop to shop and with all the deals and special offers going on you can pick it up at reasonable prices.
Pepsi max has been well advertised and still is on our tv screens.Top football stars from all round europe are used to advertise this product to give it world wide credibility and I think it works very well.

...at least it was until Pepsi Max came on the scene. Strutting out in traditional Pepsi colours (Or is that colors) with a fab logo and cool add campaign (remember the surf style dudes and the one where he chases what I seem to remember as a Jaguar, because it had made of with his can, ‘Bad kitty’ I think) it certainly looked like a winner. Of course I didn’t believe it, when had diet ever tasted good before, I would not be fooled… You're history

Pepsi max contains: Carbonated Water, Colour (Caramel), Artifical Sweeteners (Aspartame, Acesulfame K), Phosphoric Acid, Flavourings (Including: Caffeine), Preservative (Sodium Bensoate), Citric Acid.
Drinks like this offer no actual nutritional value (meaning they won’t mess up a diabetics blood sugar balance), but do contain caffeine (hyperactive children don’t need sugar to party). I'm not sure of the effects all these ...

It was the call of 'free sample' that made me whirl around from my mad dash to the train.
Would it be some more Lloyd Grossman cooking sauces or another cr***y Microsoft handout ?
No - it was a nicely chilled small can of the new PepsiMax Cino (complete with logo napkin). The 'latest' coffee flavoured cola drink.
Always up for a new experience, I carried my prize away to the waiting train and started to glug ??..

Completing the Grandslam of Coca-Cola and their 4 main drinks is the Coca-Cola Zero drink that is quite similar to Diet Coke in the selling points of the product as it's there to be low in Sugar and Calories. Hopefully however this didn't follow in it's Diet brother footsteps too much, as that was an appalling drink that seemed to rip up the Coca-Cola name and try to destroy it in 1 fell swoop. This however seems to be seen as the direct rival to the PepsiMax drink sold by Coca-Cola's long term rival. A sugar free version of the Coke drink that many have fallen in love with over the years. The high standard of Cherry Coke still holds the bench mark, just above the Original Coke, whilst Diet Coke effectively no showed with it's poor attempt to call it's self a Coke drink.
As with the Original and the Cherry variation Zero has ...

The other day I was walking past a shop and there was a sign outside which lured me in. It read "EVERYTHING £1 - today only". So of course I go walking in! What has this got to do with Pepsi? Well, I see they were selling a 6 pack of PepsiMax for just a quid. Granted it was out of date, but not by that much so I bought it.

PepsiMax Twist Lemon & Lime does, in fact, cost £0.42p for a 330ml can! (It says so on the can!). The tin can is mainly dark blue with the brand name on the can and the famous red white and blue Pepsi trademark circle.
You will find on the tin the ingredients, nutritional information, contact information and the website address
The lime green ring pull on the can is quite easy to open, although could prove slightly difficult if you've got problems with your hands or fingers ...
