Value
You're buying basic here - five doors and four wheels; EX does have a folding rear seat and a clock, and GX boasts rear wash/wipe; two-year/24,000 mile warranty isn't too stingy, though.

Costs
Cheap, cheap, cheap... Over 50 mpg in normal use, low service costs, reasonable resale value - only other ultra-cheapies like Cuore, cinquecento and Suzuki Alto can come close.

Reliability
Based on the reliable old Daihatsu Mira, so components are well proven; Malaysian build quality looks OK, too.

Driving
Initially entertaining when buzzing around town but the novelty soon wears off - there's lots of noise and the ride is jogging; completely out of its class on fast A-roads or on the motorway.

Performance
Engine makes a sporty sound and likes being revved hard; but it's manic above 70 mph.

Comfort
Adequate space inside, even for rear seat passengers; fine around town, but you wouldn't want to drive it long distances.

Image
Silly name, Perodua's Lack of familiarity and small dealer network count against the Nippa; Daihatsu origins and the car's penny-pinching proposition help to redress the balance.

Safety
Side impact beams; lack of other modern safety features reflects both the low price and the age of the design.

Security
Standard immobiliser; an alarm is a dealer-fit extra and is probably a sound idea in urban areas.

When Buying Used Check for
Body: Watch out for parking dents and scrapes.
Engine/Gearbox: Short service interval on the hard-worked little engine, so make quite sure that service schedules have been kept up.

I agree about the silly name but it sounds a good economical car. Maureen
