Some time last year, I realised I was constantly bombarded with adverts of the new Persil capsules. Out of curiosity, I went shopping at Sainsbury, and found them on special. Since then, Persil capsules have been a constant in my household.
Persil colour capsules comes in a box of 20. This is sufficient for 10 washes. A capsule contains liquid detergent in a water soluble plastic wrapping. The capsule dissolves upon contact with water, both hot and cold.
According to Persil, my box of bio colour capsules contains enzymes that is highly effective for stain removal and works at low temperature.
In one of my experiment, I put two capsules in the detergent container and watched the water washed over it as it enters my washing machine. I realised that the wrapping became sticky and the detergent slowly seeped out of its plastic wrapping. The entire wrapping did not dissolve fully. Eventually I had to physically remove it. On closer inspection, the wrapping had kind of either dissolved or melted into a small lump with some residue of the detergent. Very sticky and no fun at all.
Usage ===== Use two balls for a full load. Persil suggest putting the capsules on top of the clothes, towards the back of the drum. For clothes that are heavily soiled, Persil recommend using 3 capsules. I sat in front of my washing machine to watch its effect. Within minutes, bubbles were observed and this continued until the rinsing stage.
From the experiment I conducted previously, I hoped that 1. The wrapping was washed away during the rinsing stage. 2. Did not clog up my pipes. 3. Did not stick into to any of my clothes!
Effects ======= I've used this on all my washings, except woollen ones. My clothes come out of the machine feeling clean and smelling very nice. Even my husband realised that his clothes smell nice, a compliment from a guy who doesn't notice much about his clothes, especially differences in laundry detergent.
The only downside is that the scent does not last very long. If clothes are dried in the dryer, the scent completely vanishes. Drying by traditional means (ie. hanging it out), keeps the scent longer for a couple of days but no longer than a week.
I do not know the effects on either hard or soft water. I still don't know the difference between the two (water is water, right?).
Cost ==== They cost around 2.80 pounds per box of 20 capsules. But they are usually on specials at either Tesco or Sainsbury every few months. That is when I stock up on my supplies.
Verdict ======= I found these to be very convenient, especially on my travels. I no longer have to carry plastic bags of detergent on longer trips.
So on the plus side, it is convenient. But on the other hand, I cannot vary the amount of detergent to use for each wash, unless I add more capsules. If I was using a bottle of liquid detergent or powder ones, I can very easily pour more into the machine. So, in that sense, using this is more wasteful. Furthermore, it is more expensive.
A comment from my mother: "Its for lazy people, who do not want to measure the amount of detergent to use for each wash!". I think that describes me very well!
Not recommended unless 1. You are very lazy. 2. Wants to use this for laundry during your travels.
Advantages: can put them straight in the drum Disadvantages: price, washing ability, can break if not careful
...the most awful advert for persil washing capsules.
Television and billboard advertising followed and soon I was sick and tired of the things. However.... being a bit of a sucker for new cleaning products and an already user of persil I thought I would look out for them in the supermarkets.
When I next went shopping and saw that they cost about £3 for a box of 20 (I think) I thought no way, my persil tablets cost under £2 per box of 18. A while ... ...nice as normal persil products and infact a white shirt had to be re-washed with some vanish in wash liquid as it didn't get a pen mark off which my normal persil tablets would get off.
Would I buy the product again? NO! ...

Advantages: Very easy to use Disadvantages: Doesn't clean problem areas well, Quite dear
I decided to try Persil capsules after a 50p coupon suddenly found its way to my door and I must admit I'm not greatly impressed with them! Even with the discount, a box of 20 capsules cost over £2 - so they had to do really well to convince me to keep using them...
GOOD Points: Well, they're easy to use. You just put 2 (0r 3 if it's a heavily soiled load) straight onto your washing in the drum. No scoops to measure and no little bag to bother with. ... ...box - wasn't an issue with tablets which are individually wrapped in plastic). And as I've already said - they're expensive.
Overall - yes they're easy and fun to use and they do have novelty value...but from my personal experience they're not as good as other Persil washing products. ...

Advantages: Keeps clothes looking new and really fresh smell Disadvantages: A tad pricey
...spotted a new product from Persil called Black Velvet.
I had not seen it advertised on T.V so decided to pick it up and take a look.
Its a new detergent specifically designed to clean and care for black and dark clothes. They claim its different because it actively helps to keep your blacks as black as new.
Well worth a try I thought, because some of my black and dark clothes have a grey look after two washes, I just hate it when that happens.
... ...colours you can buy, but Persil is a good brand and they have been around a while, long enough to put their money where their mouths are, it seems quite strong so I dont use as much as they suggest, it will last longer than the 14 washes.
I have used it several times now, and one or two things where new. They have survived my washes, I dont have a good record when it comes to shrinking, upsizing and red sock in the white wash. They are still as ...

Advantages: Easy and quick to use Disadvantages: Expensive
Persil capsules are the newest thing on the market now. They're little capsules in the shape of a UFO, with persil washing liquid contained in them. I paid £2.95 for 20 capsules, which is 10 washes. It's expensive, I know, but as they are new, I thought I'd give them a go. It does say on the box to use 2 capsules in a light to normal soiling wash, and 3 in a heavy soiling wash.
Using them couldn't be simpler really. All you do is place your washing ... ...which is placed in the Persil box. This is handy if you do get any that leak. The clothes smell nice, and they are easy to use.
Although, I must say, I still prefer using the powder. This way, you can use however much or little you wish to. But, with the capsules, although you could use more, it would certainly work out more costly with the price of them.
It's an ingenius idea using capsules. It makes you wonder what they will come up with next, ...

Advantages: Very easy to use and easy to store Disadvantages: expensive
...I had tended to use Persil soap powder and to be honest I think I will stick with it.
The capsules come in a nice attractive little box, which is small and compact and ideal for the small cupboard under my sink, a welcome change I thought from the large bulky box, which I usually struggle to find a place for, but a word of warning don’t be fooled by clever packaging.
My first negative observation was the price, at £2.60 for a box of twenty capsules ... ...my standard powder.
You need to use 2 capsules per load, or even 3 if it is heavily soiled load so a box doesn’t go very far. To be fair they are very easy to use, you simply place them inside the drum of your washing and they do smell very fresh but try and look beyond the hype.
It is also not possible to pre soak heavy soiled items as I sometimes do with my powder and it is important that you make sure that your hands are completely dry when ...

Advantages: Does the job Disadvantages: Leaves scent is cups and mugs
Why, oh why, I ask myself, do good brand names play around with their products and end up making them worse, instead of better. It happened with Special K when they converted to bigger flakes instead of the tiny ones and the taste was ruined.
Um! Sorry getting carried away on another topic. Well, what they have done to Persilwashing up liquid is a similar thing. (No, they haven?t made it into flakes.) Something has happened to the formula. I used to use Persil for when I hand wash dishes but went over to Fairy. The other day I decided to go back because I spotted a beautifully, milky, pale green coloured aloe vera Persilliquid and I really quite fancied it.
Anyway, I did my usual and just squirted the liquid into the wash up bowl, added hot water and started the job. There were a lot of bubbles for amount of the product I had used ...
Advantages: Not too expensive Disadvantages: Pours out more than you need
My mother in-law is always on the look out for offers whenever she shops and stock up on things that don't have expiry dates such as toilet rolls and washing up liquid.
I personally use the Tesco's own brand because it's cheap and cleans just as well but my mother in-law recently found an offer on this washing up liquid and gave me a couple of bottles so here I am to give you my review.
The bottle is unlike most washing up liquids as it is not clear but a vibrant yellow with a green flip top lid. It dents in slightly near the top on both sides, I'm assuming this is for an easy grip as it doesn't curve in the middle like others. The label states clearly that it is a concentrated washing up liquid by Persil and this one is particular is the Lemon Zing flavour. The size of the bottle is also on the top of the label, mine is a 500ml ...
Advantages: very effective on grease. It really works. Disadvantages: more expensive
So,you haven't a dishwasher eh? want something kind to hands? A well known tried and tested Brand? look no further!
For the past three years I have used "Persilwashing up liquid."
The type I am using at the moment is called;"Persil Naturgel"and it is the 500ml. size and the Mint extract one. This means the gel is a fresh light green colour.
This is a very good buy,as the gel is concentrated, and for it's size, can last up to one week-sometimes more for my family of 5.I wash up probably four, five times a day with my lot!!So it does last-AND- you don't need to use copious amounts to do the job properly;Another bonus and bug bear with me personally,in the cheaper ranges...
Persil Naturgel is,I have discovered, very kind to those with sensitive skin.It has never made my skin itchy,or red,and as I can't get on with gloves-this is ...
